The Prisoner

Yup, amazing show. This along with Doctor Who shaped my early years in the mid 80's. I remember going into work with my dad at the hospital on the weekends when I was a kid. He would do his rounds and I would watch PBS that would have Prisoner and Doctor Who on all morning. Other kids were watching cartoons, and I was watching British sci-fi, explains a lot.

doubt it.i was 10 so i didnt.i watched all the reruns about 76 or 77.i think he turned out to be number 1

turns out HE was No 1

Wrong.
In the US remake he "gave in" and became No. 2.

The reason why the final episode of the original series was so odd was that the series got dropped before the end of the supposed number of episodes and McGoohan had to write something to wind it all up.

I dont give a flying fuck about the US remake in the original series when he gets to No1 and rips his mask of it is himself

-- Sat Aug 18, 2012 9:24 am --

Mystery/Suspense/Fantasy whatever. It's a bloody good show that went on to influence a lot of other shows, X-files being one. Plenty of connections to sci-fi.

In my opinion 'The Prisoner' was probably THE most confusing programme ever ......

even all these years later , as i watched the repeats , it still left me baffled .....

very memorable for its stunning welsh village setting though!

Oh I'm sorry. I didn't realise you took it literally!

For most grown ups it was allegorical.

Yes, I think it got to the point where the money was running dry and he was asked how many episodes were left, think he had planned for 20 but at the time had no idea himself how it would end! So it was just cut short.

After the series in 83 / 84, I subscribed to a bi monthly magazine called the '6 in 1' and was full of anoraky type fans (like myself lol) all writing about their interpretations of scenes / the plot etc.
I always remember someone writing in saying Abba named their album ''Arrival'' after the episode of the same name from The Prisoner!
