The striker situation

We have five first team strikers currently on the books at City:

Negredo
Aguero
Jovetic
Guidetti
Dzeko

Now the decision to allow two of them to go on loan without a recall clause on the very last day of the summer transfer window might just prove to come back and haunt us big style!!

Negredo wanted to go and was injured at the time of his loan move, there were a lack of real replacements on the last day of the transfer window and Guidetti wouldn't of been much use either.

Just because Negredo wants to go doesn't mean we have to let him go. He would have recovered from his injuries and been fit so we wouldn't have had to employ Milner up front. And if Guidetti is worse than Milner as a Striker he might as well open his Night Club now!!

But bored about the banging on about the mistake we made over Negredo because quite clearly we didn't.

He was injured and in the period since he has been fit to start we have won 9 and drawn 1 from 10 games and had he been fit to play it's fair to say we wouldn't have done any better at all. As long as we beat Sunderland then him going has made absolutely fuck all difference to our season.

We can sign a player now and do so having had 3 months to plan and scout and we made 10m profit on an injured striker nearly 30 who had scored none in his last 13 games.

So let's stop going on about a mistake we made which by any rational measure wasn't a mistake and hasn't harmed us at all. Keeping an injured unhappy, out of form player who we couldn't even have played in Europe would have been damaging and rushing out on the last day of the season to spunk 20m for one season on falcao would have been stupid too.

So please please let's put this myth to bed and stop harping on about some imaginary world where negredo, ineligible in a cast and miserable would have scored a ha trick in Munich or won the game vs Stoke

Surely we knew he wanted to leave earlier in the Summer. I'm pissed off that we let him go on the last day, not the fact we let him go. I'll be amazed if we sign a striker in January as all the good ones are playing for their teams.

We haven't made any money on negredo till we actually sell him. Just waiting for them to wriggle out of the deal in summer anyway..

If we want a striker we will get one simple as.... Will be interesting to see if we do, all jan means is an extra 10% on the price but we will have more than covered that in 3 months wages and a couple of mill loan fee for negredo.

We knew he wanted out earlier but no one had offered good money for him and had it not been for a big Valencia bid (they weren't in a position to make the offer earlier) then he would've stayed. The late big bid for him and the loss of one slot in the UCL made it a no brainier to accept.

It hasn't cost is anything and if it does hurt us it will be because we decide not to sign anyone in jan not because we did so in August

You make a fair point and I can accept that.

But then as a club having then made the decision about Negredo why not just send Guidetti out on a three month loan deal somewhere (so he can be recalled)

Also we let Davente Cole leave on a loan as well. It just seems a bit baffling to me.

But if we do blag it through then fair do's to those that made the decision especially as we do have one hand tied behind our back with FFP.

Going off Negredo's second half of last season's form he would of useless especially with his mind being elsewhere. Guidetti is looking to kick start his career and wouldn't of been happy being 4th choice. That 4th spot should be for an up an coming EDS striker but yet none of them are quite ready to take up that slot.

I'm convinced we told him he could leave but not until we had secured a replacement. Having failed to do that, we then had to let him go without a replacement.

But surely everyone knows he dislocated his shoulder at west ham in the cup, in a game we were already winning 6-0 on aggregate.

No wonder his performances dropped off it takes 6 months to get over an injury like he had.

It takes 12-16 weeks to heel. We had to rush him back with Aguero and Jovetic also being injured and Dzeko being our only fit striker.
