Legally did we actually join this new ESL organisation?
Our was it just letter of intent or something similar?
It's the joining which seems to put us in breach of the PL rule.
I don't think we'll challenge it unless the fine is considered excessive given that it could be argued the breach of the rule was corrected within 48 hours with no impact other than breach of trust?
That's my view, too. The ESL had no start date so unless the PL can prove that clubs were going to enter this competition while still being members of the PL I think they are in tricky territory in enforcing it and disciplining those teams they deem are in breach.

If they go over the top with penalties, this might just encourage teams to reconsider rejoining.

In any event, what did City and many of the other clubs do about from agreeing something in principal. It could easily be argued that they were simply setting up a new competition and applying to the Premier League and UEFA for clearance.

Best of luck with the Premier League trying to argue their case with CAS. They would be laughed out of court.

I’m always intrigued as to what happens to these ‘fines’ . There never seems to be any communication on how they are distributed afterwards .

“Significant fine”
Time will tell how significant it is, whether it’s “a pinch” or if we’re paying the premier leagues Christmas bonuses.
In the current climate they need to be careful though.
It could end up driving a bigger wedge between the 6 and the premier league and the other 14 teams.
They need to come together and find solutions so this doesn’t happen again.
Big fines won’t help the situation.

I don't blame the PL for this stance, but I'm either expecting some paltry fine or something substantial enough to cause the top 6 clubs to appeal, which they'd easily win.

Fines are the easy brush it under the carpet outcome but given the ESL was entirely about money is makes sense the punishment should hit their wallets. The problem is all we all know it's the fans that will end up paying for the majority of it when it's passed down in price increases.

What I want if it is fines is a very clear outline of where the money from these fines will go. Taking money from these 6 clubs to go into the pockets of faceless bigwigs at the PL does zero good. I want a promise the money will go directly into football, distribute it equally between all other football league sides

Our statement (and the others) stated that the next step was to work with UEFA/FIFA.

You could argue the intent was to join a competition with the full backing of UEFA/FIFA/PL. And when it become clear that wasn't going to happen everyone pulled out.
