Watched something on BBC4 last night about a small poverty stricken village in Romania. The people [of the village], used on the Borat film, watched the film and couldn't understand why they had been lied to in order to be portrayed in the way they where. They thought they where being filmed as part of a documentary and where each given no more than 4 euros each. The film made millions.
It showed footage of them watching the film in bemusement. Then showed how angry some of them where too.
Some lawyers tried to get them £35 million in compensation but they too, seemed more interested in exploiting them than actually helping them; filled them with false hope.
The film is a funny as fuck. But the way the people of that village have been exploited and humilated by the film industry is appauling.
They still think that Borat is a real person. And they are still very angry with 'Borat' for lying to them.
