This, Lanzarote, heaven of earth for meDon't know about the best place as I haven't been everywhere but for proximity & climate it has to be any of the Canary Isles for me, 4hrs from Blighty, no winters, good lifestyle, great food and generally decent locals. Sign me up.

I may be getting confused with somewhere else I passed through, but seem to recall Phoenix had no centre, no shops or restaurants, or anything at all going on in it's centre.I don't live in Basingstoke. If he lives in Phoenix and it is his kind of town then good luck to him ;-)
