The way I see it (managerial situation)

After £100 million being spent and only just realising his best team at this stage in the season, I am not convinced he is the man for the job. I believe that we require managerial stability but we can only do so if the manager currently installed has shown enough about him both in terms of potential to built on this seasons achievements and that when he spends money he gets value for it by the return of the players performances.

I am of the opinion that while he is installed as Manchester City manager we should back Mark Hughes and give him our full support regardless of what he achieved as a player and base our reactions and views soley on what he has achieved with Wales, what he achieved with Blackburn Rovers and where we finish and what he has achieved in his first and potentially his last season with us.

However the problem is that throughout his stay at the club the ownership and thus the plans for the club and expectation of the manager has changed, as has the resources made available. Our current owners wealth normally dictates that they ensure they have the best and that as a consequence they are successful so we must stick out like a sore thumb at this present time.

Under Thaksin Shinawatra, in order for Mark Hughes to maintain his position as Manchester City manager he was required to finish 6th in the league. I question whether this has changed but our reliance on induvidual pieces of brilliance from Robinho, the form of Ireland and induvidual strikes have so far kept him in a job (who would expect Onouha or Zabaleta to strike like that again?) and where we would be now if it was not for them goals strikes fear into my heart. This, on top of 2 away wins all season so far, would lead me from an owners perspective lead me to request that Mark Hughes leaves his position with immediate effect.

In my opinion he will hold us back. His chase of Roque Santa Cruz without a back up plan screams lack of ambition given the limitless budget and ill preperation for a negative response in reply to our series of bids of desperation. Considering he went after players like Scott Parker when he had players like Elano at his disposal screams negativity and settling for average players that will not ensure we finish in the top four next season. Where is the winning mentality displayed by the manager? If he does not show it, how are the players meant to carry this out? It's beyond me.

It's not because of past allegiance, it's about him not achieving anything as a manager to date and our dreadful away record. Yes we have had good results recently but the rags did not have to get out of second gear to dispose of his team quite comfortably. I'm sorry but I just do not think he is the right man for the job and that he is not a big enough name.

I want him to be successful because success for him means success for Manchester City but if I was the owner the writing would already be on the wall and I would be drawing up a list of alternative candidates for the position as we speak.

Well Gary Cook was saying last night that Hughes will still be in place next season so any discussion is just pure conjecture.

IMO his record is marginally acceptable, given that the club was in complete turmoil last August. ADUG will have a short-list of 2-3 managers and if they are not available then Hughes will be given longer in the job.

My target for next season would be for 65+ points in the premiership and a semi-final in one of the domestic cups.

Don't you think that's a shit attitude to take though Challenger1978? If the manager clearly is not good enough to fulfil his role as Manchester City manager and do the job he gets very well paid to carry out then why should we simply accept a poor manager who has relied on the good form of Robinho (who he fell out with), Elano (who he fell out with) and Ireland (who loves him) so often this season?

It's not because of Hughes tactics that we win, it's down to the players performances. Mourinho and Wenger would not only command unity simply through thier name but the players would be filled with a desire to play for them and they're just two examples, not that I necessarily want them.

If we can attract the best in the business, then why should we settle for anything less?

Good, I am glad we have yet another topic about this. I mean mate, you just posted on another Hughes out topic less than 5 minutes ago.

This is basically the readers digest version of that other topic. Did you consider that as your research?

However, your location is spot on.

The 'owner' would chop and change each week depending on the result. My heart sings when Elano is in the squad but my head tells me he can't tackle, can't head and occasionally the passes go astray. I think Hughes is clearly putting safety first which is why Elano did not command a permanent berth in the side until the last few months. He hasn't had a magic touch which I think a few people were hoping for but we have established some kind of bedrock with the purchases he has made so far. I agree about the RSC fiasco but the dearth of a steady stream or even a trickle of goals, particularly away must have been a cause of managerial concern, for which RSC was only a semi-medium term prospect.

What makes you think Garry Cook will be in his current position himself after the Kaká cock-up?

His record is not marginally acceptable in my opinion. I would like to disagree on that. If you were told that we would only win 2 away from home and that our home form was not as good as it has been due to the loss of form of Ireland and Robinho then the panic button would well and truly be pressed by the significant majority I would expect. We were in the relegation places for gods sake and that's after a full pre-season and him only realising his best team lately at this time in the season, it's unacceptable. Yes we were in turmoil last August, but what reflection should that have on the performance of the manager?

Hughes should fully appreciate that if he is not up to the job, not only will he be replaced but there will be a long line of managers waiting to work on a limitless budget at a club loaded full of potential both on field and off field in my opinion.

Can't disagree with any of that. I'd also like to add that his tactical awareness and ability to change a game by using the right subs at the right time are abysmal. He's been in management long enough now and he still doesn't come across as a shining star. He'll be gone in the Summer because the owners want the best and Hughes isn't the best I'm afraid.
