Not sure if this has already been discussed but I was thinking yesterday at the game after seeing Bert come on the pitch that even tho I never witnessed his quality goal keeping skills doesn't mean I can't watch old games and admire the skill he had, But surely the guy should be up there with greats like Bell, (Mike) Summerbee, Lee ect. So I was thinkin that we should name one of our stand's after him, I think its only the South stand and North stand that haven't been named yet.

Didn't he let in 100 goals in the '57/58 season? Couldn't have been THAT good.

Wouldn't have a clue mate wasn't alive back then

yeah he did let in over a hundred goals but we scored over one hundred as well so that evens its self out and did not stop him being a GREATkeeper i agree he should have someking of long standing memory

My Grandad tells me that there are loads of players from proper donkeys ago, before Trautman, that are as deserving of stand naming as Colin Bell is! My Dads Dad who died years and years ago was born in summet like 1912 and he used to tell my Dad about how good Tommy Johnson and Eric Brook were up front, then how good Frank Swift was in nets and how good Peter Doherty was as captain when we won our first league title!

I wish some of our other fans would speak with their Grandads and perhaps we would not sing certain songs if they were told about Frank Swift.

Can anyone recall who the players were that were competing with Bell for the naming of the West Stand?

Without Bert it could have been 200 goals!!

There was a joke going the rounds then that City had changed their nickname to " The Potters " because it was reckoned that we were " 10 mugs and a gerry! ". You need to be knocking on a bit like me to know what a " gerry " was!

It is ridiculous that of the two keepers from the 56 final, Bert is the one who doesnt have a stand named after him. Brum have the Gil Merrick (fair play to the more human of their fans who gave the great man a great ovation)

my old man always said swift was better than trautmann no matter how romantic the 56 final story was

and also peter doherty was better than bell

my dad knew everything as well so i believe him !

My old man speaks highly of Peter Doherty too....

People were trying to campaign for the South Stand and North Stand to be named after Swift and Trautmann which would have been cool

Think the club said it couldn't happen because it would confuse fans

Did they explain further? Because I don't understand that explanation at all.

I like that idea, alot.

calling the stands behind the goals after our two best keepers is an excellent idea

Heh, I never even thought of there being any kind of significance what the stands were, but this is of course brilliant. I mean there's no doubt there's a special kind of connection between goalkeepers and the fans behind them.

I say why the hell not? Do it and do it now while Bert is still around.

I'll have to ask my dad cos I think he's more in the know about it. IIRC it was to do with the away fans not knowing which stand to go to, but don't quote me on that just yet because my memory is hazy and unless someone on here can clarify I'll have to ask about and get back to you.
