Thieves dig tunnel to steal from Salford cash machine

Thieves built a 50ft (15m) tunnel to steal a "significant amount" of money from a cash machine in Salford.

The theft happened on Friday at Tesco on Liverpool Road, Eccles, between midnight and 06:00 GMT, police said.

The raiders tunnelled under nearby wasteland overnight and into the shop, where they stole cash boxes. They then escaped back through the tunnel.

Police said they were looking for "people acting suspiciously on Friday night, possibly covered in soil".

I'm guessing a few of them escaped on a train. A couple rowed up the canal. One stole a bicycle and the last tried to jump a fence on a motorbike.
