Pretty much all reality TV. Love Island, I’m a Celebrity, Big Brother is the one that started it and it’s still somehow bloody going…

How, I ask, how are people not bored to fuck with it all yet?

I think maybe I’m broken or maybe my brain just doesn’t get it. Why do people care what these complete strangers are doing? If there’s some kind of “game” to it like the Traitors, I might get the appeal I guess, but the ones entirely based on social interactions (things like Love Island or Love is Blind are by far the worst), I can’t even begin to contemplate how to give a fuck.

Most reality shows and talent shows are good for a couple of series until it's been going for long enough that everyone on it thinks they know how it works, and the producers think they know what audiences want and try to manufacture it. So Big Brother, rather than putting a bunch of people in a house to see what happens, deliberate select a bunch of utter dickheads because they think it will create more moments. In reality, it creates a situation where you couldn't give a shit about any of them because they're so dislikeable. Same with stuff like X Factor. It started out alright because stuff like Simon Cowell's criticism and judges disagreements seemed genuine. Then it turned into a pantomime with the judges deliberately disagreeing with each other and competing to put down contestants in 'witty' ways. And then they added the live audience for the initial audition, and it became way worse.
