This forum

It's grown and changed over the last few years I prefer the term matured like a fine wine, it's huge forum now with many thousands of members many who post little but read the forum everyday for many people it's the go to place for City news and opinion (and that's one of the reasons we don't allow porn to be posted, because many people view the forum at work and the forum would be blocked by web filters)

On the whole the forum is self moderating and has settled at a level where nearly everyone is comfortable , we just do the background jobs that hopefully make your viewing of the forum better

I hold my hands up to the locking of the Derby day thread, with hindsight perhaps it was not the best decision I have ever made I am pretty much one game at a time kind of guy and I let that influence my decision.

On a final note we are always open to suggestions and criticism, after all you make the forum we just manage it

A man who can recognise a mistake. Good on you. I bet your garage is really tidy. Orderly.

Congratulations Damocles, the sword has now fallen and you will be able to moderate during the night as you rock the bairn to sleep!! Multi-tasking will become second nature but there is no feeling in the world like bringing a new person into the world. :-) Every happiness to you and your family.

Ominously waits for BlueTangerine's appearance... :)

Couldn't agree more about topics being merged! It's so frustrating and turns a few threads into mega threads. I used to love it when there was a new article on city that people would discuss on here, these days unless you properly search for it you can't find it.

In terms of the mods, overall they can be a bit overzealous but to be fair they do a bloody good job especially as the site traffic has grown considerably the last few years. It's a thankless job, let's be honest.

I can't see any reason why there shouldn't be a pre-match derby thread, so that's been unlocked now.

We started the policy of merging related threads as users complained that there were too many duplicate topics, and that it was making the board hard to read.

If people feel that we've gone too far the other way though, then obviously we'll review it. Contrary to what certain people think, we're not on a power trip - we're just trying to make decisions for the good of the forum.

Personally, I think there is a valid argument that merging threads is perhaps stifling discussion. Some of the bigger threads (like the player ones, FFP, media bias, United etc) are getting a bit unwieldy and hard to follow.

We'll try relaxing things over the coming weeks, and merging less, and see how it goes.

Good idea mate, there will be a happy medium. Could I make a suggestion, what if a thread is given 24hrs and them merged with a general topic on that subject? For example the mirror article on guardiola, no idea if it was posted in the General guardiola to city thread because I didn't have time to scroll back through the pages but I was interested in seeing what fellow fans thought to the article. If that was a standalone thread then after 24hrs it could be merged with the bigger guardiola one.

Anyway just a thought.

Sadly most of the threads now in the Forum are player topic ones. Just a place for posters to slag players off

I suppose its the nature of a football forum, but sometimes a quick perusal of Bluemoon would make you think that our fans generally dislike our players (Silva, Aguero and Zabaleta excepted).
