I've tried posting a link below. I hope it works. It relayes to Robbie Savage's column in the Daily Mirror. Just in case, I've quoted the relevant piece below also. It's the last paragraph that surprised (and disappointed) me. SWP's kid is playing at United? Is this the same Shauny who is blue through-and-through and really, really wants that pay-rise??
I know the boy's only five (or six) - but, Christ above, show some standards, Shauny! Show some standards!

Shaun Wright-Phillips is only 5-foot-5 but he's big enough to look after himself.
So I think Ian Wright was wrong on two counts to say Manchester City were mugging his son off by not giving him a pay rise to match what others at Eastlands are earning.

First, I believe that as a player you shouldn't care how much your team-mates are making. It's not about the other bloke, it's about you.
And second, though I know it's natural to stick up for your flesh and blood, I think this is one battle Shaun would like to have fought for himself.

Shaun's son plays alongside my lad Charlie for Manchester United under-sixes. If he grows up to be even half as good as his dad and grandad, he'll have a great career.
 
tbh you do whatever you can if you want to make it. if i got picked up by the rags as a kid, i'd have taken it.

(if he's good enough, we can go in for him in a few years cause that lot will need all the money they can get :P)

I was invited to Utd when I was 13 but said no. My dad kicked me all the way there! Used to turn up in my City gear which didn't go down too well. Twas before the big money wages so I may have thought differently...
 
At that age it doesnt really matter, more often than not its just a lottery as to whether that coach/scout at the time likes the look of you, and really upto 10/11 year old it is a pure lottery in picking kids,
At the end of the day the boy is out there running around, booting a ball about and probably enjoying it as we probably all did at that age plating football.

I think the key words there are,(under-sixes) not going to be scoring a last min winner against us just yet is he.
 
I still play for Leeds United and have done for 5 years now. Since under 8s.

Lots of good mates there now, playing Un*ted on Sunday coincidentally, and if anybody's interested, at my age Un*ted are a very good side.

They seem to be brought up with the hunger for victory, want to win attitude. Which reflects the first team if we're all honest.

Is it just me who thinks that under-SIXES is a stupidly early age to start being coached and playing in a team? Fucking ridiculous. These kids should be free to express themselves on their own and join teams when their a bit older.

My mate has under 5's at his academy, the stuff they can do when coached right is scary, only gets ruined when I ref for them!!
 
I had a friend who was a devout die hard rag. How ever, he still gave 110% to Aston Villa when they came knocking. Pitty he blew his chance. The demon drink get the better of him.

When i did abit of coaching they started at under 6's, the kids were mad eager to learn and play and out o say 20 kids you probably had 5 who actually knew how to play if you understand, the others would just enjoy running around kicking the ball, and each other. If you get a good bunch it is amazing how much they can learn, and are willing to learn.
