Thought we weren't going to pay over the odds?

From the official site:

"We have made a substantially improved bid but it was rejected. We still want to bring Roque Santa Cruz to the Club if we can, but obviously he is Blackburn's player and at the moment they do not want to deal at the level we have made a bid at. That's their prerogative. We bid £12million in the summer, and this was significantly higher."

There's no way he's worth substantially more than £12m. Can we add Leslie to the WUM list?

i think it's called " getting desperate".

1. Its the middle of the season and clubs are less willing to lose their best players. + ££££
2. It is common knowledge we are the richest club in the world. + ££££

Thought we did well with the Bridge transfer fee

I'd say Bridge is a good signing but again £12m does seem like a lot for a 28yo who was 2nd or 3rd choice fullback at his previous club.

We can of course adopt the attitude that we have a ton of money and it doesn't really matter. Obviously Leslie couldn't come out and say, 'yes we'll throw stupid money around to get the players that we want' as then every club we sent an offer in to would try and take us for a ride, but the Arabs will want to see a suitable return on any money spent.

Daily Mail is reporting that the siginificantly higher bid was £16 million.

I wouldn't wipe my arse with the Daily Mail. Anyone can guess at £16m from what's been said already.

And who do you suggest we buy and the price we will have to pay, oh and the small matter of availability?

I'll just check with my network of worldwide scouts. Back in ten minutes, I suggest you make yourself a brew while you wait.

every club will reject any 1st offer we make, regardless of how much or who it is...

its common knowledge we are the richest club in the world...

so we make an offer of 12mil they are going to say no or negotiate as they know regardless of if he's worth it or not they can bleed more money from us...
