Thoughts on the Cup Final

Final whistle,at last, the monkey off our backs, looked at thousands of blues going mental, then a banner was unfurled "Absent Friends,Gone,But Not Forgotten".Completely lost it, tears streaming down my face, overwhelmed,by the occasion,so many have gone, without being able to see our "City" on the rise again.

This one? Seen it outside the ground before the game, and it struck a chord. Dad passed away 11 years ago next month (11th) and he first took me to Maine Road. And mum's first anniversary was on the 18th, just 4 days after the cup final. She wasn't really into football but she was always saying after the latest crushing blow; ''Their day will come''. Not ashamed to say I shed tear or two as I sat there in the ground watching Tevez being presented with the cup.

I've had a season ticket for 24 years and that moment was so special it was almost too difficult to take it all in ..... watching the highlights back and seeing us lift the trophy brings it back time and time again and the emotions well up.

Whatever happens, I will always have this moment with my boy ......

Some wonderful stories on here of the day. I cried like a baby at the end of the semi final and for some strange reason was not as emotional at the end of the final. My wife passed away in January of last year and it was through her that I got a season ticket again as she got me one as an anniversary gift. I wore her wedding ring to both games and I know that she was watching and smiling as Yaya slammed the ball in, rip Bren and thanks xx

*eyes well up*
RIP Your wife.

Good on you mate I have been supporting city since I was 7 in 1973 and even though I live in New Zealand I get back every couple of years and for the final I got lucky and a mate got made CEO of NZ football so got me tickets for the final just below your PM was awesome the best day of my life excluding my daughter being born CTID VK for captain whichever way the CT works out !

some months ago i posted on Bluemoon how grown adults shouldn't cry over a game of football, i wasn't trying to act tough or macho ,i just stated that there's more important things in life to get upset about, ie the passing of a loved one etc.....we've had more heartache than most teams and ive attended most of them Halifax in the fa cup, luton at maine rd, Stoke away etc etc . but it didnt drive me to tears .so after 'forcing ' all this legacy of heartbreak on my son ( who's 23 now ) imagine my shock when the final whistle blew at Wembley, i looked over and saw the un-restrained joy on his face , the floodgates opened and i cried like a baby ...............so what ever happens in the future , i cried at a football match.......and im proud of it..............!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best day of my life! It all seems abit if a blur when I think about the day, but I can remember when that full time whistle went it was the first time I had relaxed for a month.
My grandad passed away last year and so I got mike 1 and his D.O.B on my home shirt, I wore it to every city game at home and some of the away games I got to, I also wore it at the semi final and final. After the final they played the exact version of blue moon that we played at his funeral, which took us 3 days to find!!
R.I.P mate gutted you wasn't there xx.
