In keeping with the general good humour of the week, I have been compiling some stats on the infant season so far, and our record of late in derby games.
The season so far:
In 7 games (all competitions) we have scored 20 goals and conceded 4. The defence has kept five clean sheets, and only one goal has been scored against us in open play (Cardiff's first). The other goals against us have been two headers from corners against Cardiff and Rooney's free kick on Sunday. In all competitions, it is now around 480 minutes (and counting) since a goal was scored in open play against us. We are yet to concede a goal in open play with Vincent Kompany on the pitch. Between Cardiff's third and Rooney's goal on Sunday we went about 375 minutes without conceding a goal of any description.
8 different players have scored for us so far in all competitions. The scorers so far are (league goals in brackets)
Yaya 5 (3)
Aguero 4 (3)
Dzeko 3 (1)
Nasri 2 (2)
Jovetic 2 (0)
Negredo 2 (2)
Silva 1 (1)
Navas 1 (0)
16 of our 20 goals have come from open play.
Only one goal has resulted from a corner.
Of those 16 goals, 7 have come from crosses from wide positions or positions close to the byline.
Some quirky goal facts.
Kun Aguero has scored with a left foot shot, a right foot shot, a left foot volley and a right foot volley.
Yaya has scored four out of his five goals with shots from outside the penalty area. The fifth went in off his knee from two yards. All three of his free kicks were scored at the same end of the Etihad, from about the same distance from goal on the same pitch position. All were shots into the same area of the goal.
Only Silva and Negredo have scored with headers. Neither has scored with anything but a header.
Every goal which has not been scored from open play has been scored by Yaya Toure.
Three quarters of our goals were scored by players whose first language is either Spanish or French.
Onto some Derby stats.
Since the beginning of the 2010-11 season (Mancini's first full season) we have played the rags 10 times in all competitions including the Community Shield. we have won five, the rags four, and one was a drawn.
Four of our five wins came in the league. Two of the rags wins were in the league.
The total aggregate score in all 10 games is 21-14.
In eight of the nine games which were not drawn, the team who scored first went on to win the game. The only exception is the Community Shield.
When the match has entered its final five minutes (inc added time), City have won on each of the five occasions they have been ahead, but have never won when the scores have been level. There have been three occasions when the scores have been level with five minutes of play remaining, the rags have gome on to win two of them.
Of City's 21 goals in those 10 games, 16 were scored from open play, the exceptions being VK's winner in the title winning season, Lescott's goal in the Comm Shield, Dzeko's first in the 6-1 Kolarov's free kick in the FA Cup and Yaya on Sunday. (You could arguably add Zaba's goal last season as being from a set piece, but I think that when a corner is cleared out of the box you are back into open play.)
9 of United's 14 goals come from open play. Each of the last 3 goals the rags have scored against us has been from set piece/dead ball situations.
Of the seven league games we have played in this period, we have won four, the rags two and one has been drawn (the first of that sequence of games, in fact). We have won four of the last five league derbies.
Taking the 7 league games as a whole, the total goals for and against is 16-8. half of the rags tally come from set piece. Fourteen of our total of 16 goals came from open play.
City could field a team consisting entirely of outfield plays who have scored in the last 10 derbies: Hart, Zaba, Kompany, Lescott, Kolarov, Milner, Yaya, Nasri, Silva, Aguero, Dzeko.
Rooney has scored 5 of the last 9 goals the rags have scored against us, and has four goals in seven league games against Joe Hart.
Aguero has five goals in six games against the rags, Dzeko four in nine, Yaya three in 9.
David De Gea's personal record in derby games is:
Played 6, lost 4, won 2 (inc comm shield)
Goals conceded - 17
Clean sheets - 0
Kun Aguero has four goals in five games against De Gea, Dzeko has three in six.
On Sunday City had five shots on target. Four of them were goals (and he nearly let the fifth in too).
When his contract comes up for renewal, we might suggest having a whip-round
