I'm on Facebook to keep in touch with old mates in the UK I grew up with. Also friends in the US.I only realised the other day that I don't actually use Facebook, instagram, twitter etc. Haven't been on them in about a year so just deleted them.
People expecting a massive improvement in your life from getting rid, I can tell you that for me fuck all changed ha.
I think the main thing to get rid of is the 24 hour news cycle, I try to avoid it all where I can. Just keep up to date with what's going on within a few miles of my house, who gives a fuck about anything it else. Its all just bad news

It's good for that.
Why? Thats just about the worst way to keep informed on how people are getting on. I doubt he means speaking to them saying hi, but seeing how they and their families are doing. I spent 4 years living with an american family in the 90's/2000's and facebook is great for seeing how them, their kids, grandkids now are growing up. It's just about the only thing i try and use facebook for.Surely better on text/watsapp

Me: this algorithm has a warped view of me. I don't just like boobs and old men fishing.
The algorithm: I think I know you better than you know yourself.
I deleted it November 6th and haven’t looked back. Along with avoiding the politics forum on here, I can say that I’m far less depressed and likely to doom scroll. I can’t affect the thoughts of others in any meaningful way so I’ve decided, why waste my time when I could be doing things far more positive for my own psyche?Course it does. I’m still on Twitter. I don’t and have never associated or bother with the ‘cesspit’ or whatever people want call it, just totally ignore it, you can if you want to. I’ve no time for it. I still acknowledge the ones I always have and will do.
What’s the number without the bots?Twitter still having a decent amount of traffic considering how many people "Claim" to have left.
There are 540 million users worldwide on X (formerly Twitter) The platform X had 541.56 million monthly active users in 2023 which is a 47% increase from the previous year.
Facebook also having a great time of it despite the echo chamber in denial again.
While its popularity isn't what it once was, Facebook remains the most popular social media platform globally, with around 3 billion users in 2024. That's more than TikTok and Instagram combined!*

I must admit, the days where facebook was actually a stream of peoples posts are long gone. Its 90% bollocks adverts now and the odd post from someone.Only if they're posting it to hundreds of other freinds who are hardly interested.
surely its better to watsapp and see how kids/family are doing, more personal and private.
Part of the reason i come off Facebook was i hated (for example) lets say taking my kid to a Hammers match and posting that on faccebook, and when i met up with a family member or mate that would instantly be the start of the conversation ''i see you took your little one to west ham, how was it '' etc - just made me feel that they're only interested because they're scrolling through social media and being nosy c*nts.
Much better now i'm off it and convos are not dictated by social media.
