Enough of the bullshit excuses, arrogance and walking about like your gods gift.

Good news. I think your summary of him is overly harsh though. I don't think he is arrogant and I don't think he walks around like god's gift.

He does need to mature and man up a bit but you can see BM is trying to shape him into a better player on the pitch and a better man off the pitch.

New contract until 2015.

A bit strange giving players new contracts at this stage of the season?

Call me a cynic but... He's a regular in the England squad, playing his part in a squad that is top of the league, won the FA cup and is playing Champions League. During this time he is negotiating a contract that will probably double his weekly wage (not to mention likely incentives) but when he scores (vs Wolves for example) he turns round and looks like someone has pissed on his missus. Cheer up FFS!

Agreed, but it helps to calm down any speculation after the press have been blowing anything Mancini has been saying out of proportion since his words on AJ's performance the other week

England winger Adam Johnson has signed a new five-year contract with Manchester City to underline his status as a key member of Roberto Mancini's squad.

Johnson, signed from Middlesbrough as a relative unknown in 2010, will no longer be the lowest-paid player in City's first-team squad with his wages doubled to an estimated £80,000 a week.

The deal means Johnson, who is desperate to play enough games to make Fabio Capello's England squad for Euro 2012, looks certain to stay at the Etihad Stadium despite interest from Chelsea, Liverpool and Spurs.

The £7million winger has a testing relationship with Mancini, who has admitted to being extra hard on the 24-year-old.

Johnson was angry at being left out of the 6-1 win at Old Trafford and was upset after Mancini criticised him following a match-winning performance in the Carling Cup at Wolves a few days later.

But the Italian manager said: 'If he were not a good player, I wouldn't waste my time on him. But, because he has everything, I don't want him stopping at this level.'

Johnson is enjoying his best spell at the club with four goals in his last six games before Saturday night's game at QPR.

He admitted in an interview with the Sportsmail that Euro 2012 is already entering his thoughts. 'Missing out on the World Cup was devastating for me. I can't not go to Euro 2012 as well,' he said.

Johnson's new contract completes a remarkable rise. He came to prominence in Middlesbrough's 2004 FA Youth Cup-winning team but his progress at Boro was blocked by Stewart Downing. However, Boro's relegation allowed him to join City.

He's young and English, so was always going to be offered a new deal. We have a homegrown quota to fill and Barry, for example, is nearing the end of his career. We will want to limit the number of times we have to buy a top English talent, as the transfer fee is always over-inflated. So the likes of Johnson, Milner, Richards and Hart are players that can still be here in 10 years time if they really want to be. Hugely important players in our squad, and should always be tied down to long deals.
