Time to stop 11 men in the box?

Probably comes across as sour grapes after last night, but surely it can't be good for the future of football to just have teams sit 10 men in the box for the full game in the aim of getting a point?

We make many changes to make the game flow better like the offside rule or no passbacks. Is it time to introduce a minimum players in the box rule?

We see it more and more, teams sitting sitting deep and it turns the game into a shitfest and kills any excitement. Obviously as a City fan it would benefit us and not lesser teams, but surely as a football fan such a rule would improve the excitement of the game?
I'd sooner for for goals that were ten feet high and ten yards wide, Or, better still, send a player off when it's a clear red card!

I’ve said this before and got totally shot down, but here goes again: the goals should be bigger.

When the original rules of football were drawn up I think the width of the goal was three average men lay down end to end. Not sure about the height, but if I’m remembering correctly there wasn’t a crossbar for the first few years, just string.

I bet back then an average man was what, 5ft 7, 5ft 8”. What is it now five 11, maybe six foot.

I think FIFA/Eufa have tried to change the game, get more goals, specifically modern technologies changing the ball from the past (was it the South Africa World Cup that showed this, but it backfired, every free kick flew miles and miles but way over the bar).

I think now is the time to bite the bullet and redefine the goal size based on an average man of this generation.

Of course, the problem would be this: every school, every park would have to do likewise, but that could happen over several years. We already have different rules for different levels of the game, e.g. VAR in the Prem, but not Sunday morning leagues.

It's a great point and another aspect that's stayed the same despite the changing circumstances over the decades. I was watching some documentaries on olden days football, even as recently as Brazil 82 the goalkeepers weren't particularly taller than any other player. A variety of goals scored you probably wouldn't see today. Chelsea conceded a long shot in FA cup final with Kepa in goal, their supporters claim much taller and longer armed Mendy would have saved it or discouraged Tielemans even attempting it which I agree with. Just one more route to goal chalked off against ultra defensive sides. What happens in 50-60 years when the height of the average man is comparable to top level keepers now (6"3-6"5), the specialised elite goalkeepers will be giants but goals will probably stay the same size.

Clubs straining to get ever bit of stamina, power, height, intensity and giving players God knows what to enhance performance and yet everything they play with has the same dimensions as for the guys who turned up drunk for training back in the day. Think the game will continue to be swayed more in favour of physical and direct teams until something changes. But as you say, it'd take a long time to full implement and few years of trialing to even find the right dimensions.

We need to pinpoint the worlds best dribbler and bring him in for games where 11 men defend, this player wont have to be the best passer of the ball with the most tactical awareness he would just have to frighten defenders to death in the box.

As a side that camps out in and around the opposition box we'd get more penalties than soft mick.

Back in for Isco then?

I was thinking that tv companys viewing figures would start to drop.
But than realised most games are fairly open .
City fans see alot of the bus because teams only play the bus against City.
Teams dont tend to park the bus against utd or liverpool etc.
But City even get utd, liverpool parking the bus. Very rarely does a team come and play open football against City.

So the parking of the bus isnt a problem for the tv companys or for the excitement of the tv fans, it's only a real problem for City and City fans.

Compare the way Kevin was laid out on Saturday. No yelling, screaming, clutching of body parts that were not impacted, just lying with no movement, fully understanding he had suffered a clear injury. Now check the number of times, particularly in the second half when CFC players were, in turn, falling to the ground with only the slightest of contact and grasping a shin rather than the spot that was touched, and touched is often the operative word in these instances. Bernardo just placed his hand on some guys leg, like someone would place a hand on a shoulder when meeting an acquaintance - anyone witnessed a mate that has suffered your hand on their shoulder and immediately fell to the ground and screeched in terminal pain holding their shin or covering their face as though you had just nutted them. The last thing an injured player does is roll a couple of times to add some theatrics to their performance. It's pretty obvious to both sets of fans. Why is it only obvious to refs like Dr Felix and Baby Bjorn?

Perhaps something similar to goalline technology could be used. Each player has to wear a bracelet thing and the 6th person who tries to get into the box when 5 are already there gets a (mild) electric shock or something.

Or it can alert the ref, the ref pauses the game, goes to the side line, returns to the action where he paused the game and shoots the offending player/s involved.

Progress and adventure all in one.

If teams play so open against us we would batter them, I don't blame for doing it as its working and sadly Pep hasn't found an answer to itq
He will have to . Need to be two dimensional . Dont come on to them trying to find space between lines. Sit in. Hit long balls into corner sometimes then theyll have to come on to us. Then there are openings

I think if City get a centre forward who is a real presence in the box things might change as teams may not be willing to defend so deep if there is a chance of getting outmuscled in the box. If he is clinical and pacey then our game will be transformed.

Haaland the obvious candidate, Kane not the fastest but has other qualities.
