Tipping

As someone who's worked in the "service industry" for the last 10+ years, I sometimes get them. I'm very grateful when I do, and I pass on my (well meant) thanks for it. I don't expect a tip, but it's nice when it happens. I'm ALWAYS courteous, and engage in polite conversation when the moments arise.

When I'm the customer, I tip, apart from some bar staff when all they have to do is push down a pint dispenser, and you're out of their lives within 20 seconds.

And here's a good tip for you.
The rags to finish OUTSIDE the top 4
Little Fred Done said "it's past the post". Put your shirt on it

If its each to their own, (your last comment) why the snide remark about eating at Mcdonalds ?
That’s where you go to get food without table service…or tips!

Why is it right that people are paid below the minimum wage and therefore reliant on tips ?
How long do you have?

I don’t agree with it, but that’s the way it is. Such jobs used to be for kids earning some money, but when times get bad and people lose their jobs, they migrate down and hope to earn some money.

There are very few people who want to be professional servers unless they’re in high end restaurants that do lunch and dinner.

The owner of the restaurant is making good money purely because he pays shit wages.
The owner of the restaurant is often a faceless corporation, and the Manager of the place doesn’t set wage rates.

Why 20%? As you said it used to be 15%, so why not let the restaurant charge 30%. After all its only a few dollars more. (Cue a Clint Eastwood joke)
Why any number? It is what it is! I can’t rail against the way everything is in the world!

It was bad enough when I first arrived to learn that the price was not the price, because sales tax wasn’t already included! Stick more money for tips on top of that and your $25 steak quickly becomes $25 + $2.50 + tip, or maybe $33!

Accept it and move on, Canute, because the tide is coming in whether you like it or not!

I remember years ago going back to Jolly Old and having a few beers in my old local. I left Mike (landlord) a tip on the bar, he was not impressed

It is juts scroat employers in 2nd world countries who basically employ slaves. Why acquiesce such abuse? If the employer won't pay them a decent wage then avoid the place.

Because the usual tip in a bar is “and one for yourself” if you’ve been served in a timely fashion, drinks are all correct, pints are not 1/3 foam, and you’re generally treated well.

That always helps the slaves! It merely makes them have to try to find a different slave master/scroat!

While I resemble that remark, I’m not sure where you live, but look around! It’s clearly a pandemic!

True but we can blame you for that too. The spread of Americanised processed sugar rich shite.

:)

Countries in Europe with more traditional indigenous diets are generally slimmer.
