True. Here tipping is usually just the bill rounded up. Many don't tip at all for taxis etc. Not part of the culture here, though it is gradually changing.

Keeping wages low, below a minimum wage, fuels illegal immigration, they are not in a position to ask for more and rely on customers generosity. That is wrong.

No that is the point, if I visit New York, which is what the question asked was, then I will tip 15-20% as that is expected and what those working rely on for a decent wage. That’s just the culture of the country I’m visiting
Whether thats right or wrong or needs changing is down to American politicians and voters. Using that as an excuse for me not to tip because I live in a country where it isn’t expected would do nothing to help and only be depriving my server of their money.

Do any US states have a minimum wage ?
If raising the price of a meal ensures someone gets a decent wage but stops someone going out for one, tough. Pay staff what they deserve and tip for good, polite service.

I am not saying don't tip. I am saying tip what you believe to be the right amount for the service provided.
