Today's shooting in America thread

Yes.

The UK is one of the few countries to have mainly unarmed police.

It’s easy to think of that if police don't have guns then fatal shootings by police will not happen. Obviously that would be true as a matter of fact (if you exclude likelihood that they may use unissued firearms) , but the real problem is the abundance of guns in the general population that causes trigger happy cops.

I posted on this thread before about the correlation between states with lax gun regulations and higher incidence of police violence. The ubiquity of guns here to stay unfortunately.

what the availability of guns and armed Police with few deaths shows a mature population able to act responsibly then.

This kid had a gun, but he tossed it and complied with the officer. It's a well lit area, and you can clearly see in the picture on the left that he is not posing a threat. That was the moment just before the trigger-happy police officer shot him dead.

Yes but Australia only has 30 guns per 100 people, America has 120.

Even with regulation and culture change that number needs to come down by at least half.

Pandemic might present an opportunity to take some out of circulation Government purchase of small arms, bulk purchase and destruction of pawn shop guns. Not gonna happen though.

So do they have 1/4 of the mass shootings?

Switzerland has capitalism and 1 in 4 has a gun and they don’t have daily mass shootings.

Isn't that to do with the fact that they have no army tho? Aren't the citizens supposed to defend the country?

They also chose to ban automatic weapons in 2019 and tighten up the gun laws in line with Eu regs.
