We don’t get tighter gun laws unless gunowners support them and advocate for them and are willing to sacrifice their own time and money to abide by them because even though they are responsible and law-abiding, they believe access restriction and taxation and PSA funding and storage spot checks and bans on certain weapons are better for all.
As a rule, they aren’t. And sure — we shouldn’t expect people to vote against their own self-interest. That’s why it takes courage and empathy and some level of selflessness to do so. If that were an inherent part of the average gunowner’s make-up, they wouldn’t own a gun to begin with.
So it’s a circular reference.
