Next James Bond?

...last year Idris said if he were to become the next Bond he would not be happy if the attention was purely focused on the colour of his skin.
Talking to U.S. radio station NPR, he said: 'My Dad and I were talking about this the other day because he said 'You could do it, would you do it?' I was like 'Yeah, I would do it, but I just don't want to be called the first black James Bond'. Do you understand what I 'm saying?
'Sean Connery wasn't the Scottish James Bond and Daniel Craig wasn't the blue-eyed James Bond.
'So if I played him, I don't want to be called the black James Bond.'

However, the actor who is famed for taking on the role of drug baron Stringer Bell on HBO hit The Wire, quipped that if the role of 007 became his he would accept it in true Bond style.
Idris joked: ''If Sony decided to call me and said hey, we wanted to do [James Bond], I'd definitely consider it.
'I'd not only get in the cab, but I'd take the taxi driver out of the car, hostage, jump out while it was moving, jump onto a pedal bike that was just past the door as I got on it, and then get onto a plane - on the wing - and land on top of Sony Studios, slide through the air conditioning, and land in the office.
He continued: 'I'm never shaken or stirred.'

I don't remember 'Bond' having a racial denomination from the books, just an assumption.

I had to google him to find out who he is. I'd never heard of him, seriously. Guess I'll have to try to get out more! Anyway; what makes him think he'd be considered as the next Bond? Has he been talking to the Broccoli clan?

He had talks with them, last year, and he's under 'consideration' for a future project.

He's a brilliant character/ action actor, for the record.

Fans of 'The Wire'/ 'Luther' would testament to this.

Can deffo see him in the role although I always thought Colin Salmon would have been the first, I thought he was average in Luther though tbh, but obviously his portrayal of Stringer is legendary and shows he's more than capable of pulling it off.
Might need to lose a bit of weight though lol, last time I saw him he was carrying a bit of timber.

Haven't watched any of those programmes, so I can't pass judgement on his suitability re. Bond. I thought Craig was doing a good job with the role actually. He was excellent in Casino Royale, less so in Quantum of Solace (but it was a poor film anyway). And Skyfall is supposed to be excellent.

Not being racist but Bond is white. 50 years of films with a white actor it just wouldn't feel like the same series of films. I rate Idris Elba highly as well but really don't think this should happen.

Would love to see the reaction if Danny Dyer was touted as the next Shaft.
