Tommy Muir RIP

Just heard the devastating news of Tommy Muirs passing. A bigger blue you will not meet.

Met him at 17 when he ran the kenny in cheadle hulme , played for the footy team there with him and then me and my pals followed him to the george and dragon (following a landlord from pub to pub seemed a thing back then).

The george was THE city pub back then. We all played for the football team and was our local for years , until tommy left and we stopped going in.

Devastated.

I got to know Tommy when I joined the Cheadle Supporters branch.

Tommy loved being branch secretary. He was absolutely dedicated to his position as branch secretary.(alongside Pete)

The branch meetings were serious affairs, getting through what had to be discussed, but in-between was humour and laughter brought about by Tommy.

Tommy had a huge sense of humour, and his one liners were famous amongst the branch members, which would have everyone laughing throughout the meetings

The coach trips to the away games were never dull. They were always full of cheer, drinking, laughter, and City songs.

Keep on watching your beloved City from above.

Rest in peace Tommy.

Sad and shocking news. Many of us will always remember Tommy for his acerbic contribution to the media on the day the CAS verdict was announced. "Do one!"

A bigger blue you could not meet. Travelled for years with the Cheadle branch and what memories were made, a special time to be a blue. Myself and Jenni are devastated but somehow relieved that Tommy is now at peace. I can still hear the songs....Little Ol' Wine Drinker, The Gambler. RIP Tommy and very best wishes to his family, very many people will be thinking of you all today.

 

[Scaring Europe to Death]

Two incidents that immediately spring to mind:

April 2003 (the same day that City won at Anfield)
I was at Nurnberg v Munich 1860 and a home fan approached after spotting my City shirt.
"DO YOU KNOW TOMMY MUIR FROM CHEADLE?"
it transpired that 4 Nurnberg fans had recently stayed at the George in Cheadle and despite both games being sold out Tommy had somehow acquired extra tickets for Fulham and West Brom at Maine Road. He'd also allowed them on the match minibus and refused any payment.

Feb 2024
I was out walking the dog when Tommy phoned:
"DO YOU STILL NEED A BOURNEMOUTH TICKET?"
We arranged to meet in front of the Memorial Gardens (which I didn't even know existed until Tommy suggested them)

There was Tommy in his wheelchair and a glint in his eye, especially as it transpired that he'd somehow intercepted Kovacic's spare complimentary on its return journey to the ticket office

That was Tommy
Everyone knew him, and even better ( when you were desperate for a ticket) he knew everyone
