Toni Kroos

It did seem a bit unrealistic to prise Kroos from the new European Champions where, under Zidane, he seems more settled. If true that Kroos is unlikely to move and we're also giving up on Pogba then we seem a bit light in midfield and really do need a top world class CM (other than Gundogan). Perhaps we need to move on to players like Veratti, Pjanic and Koke although they may be just as hard to prise away.
Know who'd be easy to pry away? James and Isco.

Guardiola assures Fernando of Man City future - but will not move for Kroos or Wilshere - MEN

interesting..................

Assured him that his future here is bleak.

I'll put money on him being gone before the window closes to the first person who thinks otherwise.

Wouldn't be so sure. I think we will at least start the season with one extra central midfielder than we ended with. Yaya looks a gonner so if Fernando goes we need two more. Considering we need new players all over the show I think it's unlikely we will sign 3 in one window. He had a very good season this year and there may be more to come. Plus he's cheap and doesn't moan at being second fiddle. Could be a very handy squad player

The Boooooom certainly is turning into a damp squib.

Curious as to what has changed so much. Unless we have all just been guessing the wrong targets all along.

Pep will get more from the existing players, of course. But we have constantly been assured by ITKs and the media he wants about 6 or 7 players.

So we must trust he knows who he wants and why.

No doubt it will get spun by the press as we wanted all these guys but nobody would chose us ahead of guaranteed CL teams like Real/Barcelona or United who could be in the Johnsons Paint trophy only and Messie and co will crawl there instead of here because of who they are.

The truth will be that Pep knows what he wants and why and these may simply not suit his plan.

Gundogan, Laporte, Aubemeyang, Stones, another technical midfielder and a left back would represent an outrageously good summer, even without Kroos, Pogba, Neymar, or similar. Id be buzzing my tits off. I think that's likely to be a target or two too far but I think it's also the overhaul in age and talent our squad is crying out for.

With Just the first three signings I think our squad would change significantly.

If we sign Gundogan, Laporte, Stones , Aubemayang and Sane. And those look like the most likely 5 at the moment. Im hard pressed to see how we sign another midfielder.

If Auba and Sane play wide predominantly, with Sterling and Navas giving them competition

This will push Silva, Nasri, DeBryune, Delph, Dihno, Fernando an Gundogan into 3 positions.

Even if you, insanely like I did, conclude that Delph will be redeployed at LB, that still leaves 6 players for 3 spots. You'd have to sell one of Nasri Nando or Dihno to open a Midfield spot.

I don't think it would be Nando. I think he is the Backup DM, It's going to have to be Nasri or Dihno. Silva is Spanish, so unlikely he leaves. Nasri and Dihno seem most at risk if we intend in getting Kroos.

Assuming PAE and SaNe are a go.

£50 to a charity of the other persons choosing and post the donation receipt on here?

We'll, without a top quality DM we are not going to do well next season. Fernando is just not good enough as the CL semi proved.

I think we will definetly sign another CM. But if it's not Pogba, Kroos, Thiago etc....i have no idea who it is. Definitely gonna be interesting to see. And if it's true that Fernando and Navas have been assured about their futures. Then it has to be Nasri who leaves. Fernandinho definitely wont. I mean Pep had: Martinez, Thiago, Alonso, Vidal, Rode, Kimmich at Bayern.

Aguero, Iheanacho, Auba, KDB, Sterling, Silva, Sane, Navas. Those 8 competing for 4 spots. Gundogan, Fernandinho, Delph, Fernando + new CM for the remaining 2. Given Gundogan's and Delph's injury history it might not be too much. Anyways, Guardiola might also play 3 at the back sometimes, so no idea how that would play out.

Exciting times!

Can't see Delph making the cut if I'm honest
Even so, as I have explained in my previous theory, the only way he makes the cut is outside of midfield, which still leaves 6 senior players vying for 3 spots. Add another CM and you are looking at 7 players vying for 3 spots.
