Tonights game

Work to be done. We didn't play like we can, and they wanted our scalp. We realised they were up for it in time to get the win but we were not convincing. I've been backing Dzeko to come good this year, he won't if he plays like that, or is supplied like that. SWP was everywhere, he probably knows he is gone if he doesn't produce so is trying to make a point. If there is a player I want to stay for sentimental reasons, it's him. If he can do a job we have no reason to get rid. Lescott did well tonight too for me, Kompany seemed quiet but didn't have much to do except enjoy the scenery. Balo seemed lazy.

On a re-read this all sounds too critical, but it is only a friendly and despite everything just said we did look OK overall. No doubts in my mind when the season starts we will hit the ground running.

When our best player on the pitch (SWP) says it was like playing in quicksand, I'm not sure what we can really take from the match. At least they got in some fitness training...

SWP seems to regained the fire in his belly. He's clearly fighting for his place. Scored a couple of crackers too. I think he deserves his chance this season.

Who is this 'Guidetti' fella? Surely you mean 'Gidett'?
I wonder if it was misspelled on the announcer's sheet.

Silent "i"...pretty sure the announcer is an idiot, pronounced Kolarov's name wrong as well. On another note, I wouldn't take too much from this game with regards to individual performances...the pitch conditions made touch passing and quick movement irrelevant. I remember on several occations Balotelli tried to get up to speed with the ball and it would hit a divot, then his shin, then straight to the other team.
Go on, can I say it? Their goal was a fluke. IMHO.

-- Tue Jul 19, 2011 5:46 am --

Gives us something to discuss, eh!

1 positive we can take from that match is it was the first time in age's when we have been behind and won

@ McFcMiKe7: Yes, a lot of determination was shown by players trying to win their way into the squad. Also a lot of pride. Both positives.

I think the signing of Clichy is going to prove to be a signing that will make a major difference to our squad and position at the end of the season.

After a year of Kolarov, Clichys speed seems to offer us so much. With his pace and drive we seem so much more dangerous on the left, those cute one twos and suddenly he's down the otherwise of the pitch. I love his two footedness too, I don't think I ever saw Alek using his right foot once, but Clichy uses it all the time.
