Tories win Copeland b-election.

Copeland is a bit of an unrepresentative bubble. Any party /politician that makes negative noises about the nuclear industry is fucked up there. The inbreds rely on danger money from sellafield to keep a roof over their heads, so any anti nuclear leanings are not well received.

Labour as a party has gone awry. As a kid growing up on a council estate, everyone's dad worked, either in factories
or a trade, we all read the Daily Mirror, folk were generally patriotic and had royalist leanings, but virtually all of them
voted Labour. Nowadays, Labour MP's are invariably middle class, career politicians, have no experience of their core vote,
and eschew these values. Then we have the sickening virtue signalling procession of multi millionaire luvvie actors.
settled in their Hampstead mansions lecturing folk about how racist and uncaring they are, people are sick and tired of
this type, the party needs to take a long hard look at itself, or it's gone.

very good description of labour at the minute. the core/ working class vote is abandoning them. labour dont represent there traditional voters anymore.

It is but he only has himself to blame for allowing Bush to lead him by the nose. He also lacked the courage to slap Gordon Brown down. The feud between the two of them also played a large part in defining his premiership.
I'm not at all consumed about what he did over Iraq. Hindsight is 20-20 vision and whilst we might now regard it as a mistake, I think he did what he genuinely believed was right, as many people did at the time. People calling him a murderer and war criminal seem to have completely forgotten about the litany of atrocities committed by Saddam domestically and internationally over decades.

There is much he did about which I disagreed, but he was imho one of the least bad Labour leaders.

So there's hope for Jeremy then? You're not seriously suggesting that are you? Are you???

It's s double whammy. The country has for the past 20 years been progressively moving to the right (the country being England, not Scotland nor Wales). And at the same time Jezzer and his trots has lurched Labour to the left. The voting public have waved goodbye as Jezzer sailed past.

In his (Blair's) lifetime, Labour has been led by: Wilson, Callaghan, Foot, Kinnock, Smith, Brown and Corbyn. Wilson apart, hardly a field of "winners".

Blair was the worst leader this country has ever seen, this vile excuse for a man helped unleash the Islamic fundermentalists in the Middle East, terrorists have filled the vacuum left by the removal of rulers there who kept them in check. Our kids & their kids will have to live with this for decades now.He lied & lied again, signed away the country's powers to Europe, ushered in mass immigration that has changed the country forever, & numerous people are dead because of him. A rope would be too good for him.

My point was more that due to the peculiarities of the local economy, the west Cumbrian mouth breathers might not be representative of the UK as a whole.
