Tories win Copeland b-election.

This is true, up to a point. However, it would be repeated, maybe not so comprehensively, in other wards
for the simple fact that the Tories can savage Labour with ease, by merely pointing out Corbyn's views and policies.
He is a CND member, or at least a supporter, this organisation has been ridiculed and largely forgotten about for decades, no one, or at least
very few, believes in unilateral disarmament, it's a crackpots stance to take, yet he persists with it.
The rest of his policies are equally unworkable, or ill thought out re hashes of the same far left nonsense that resulted in
Michael Foot, (an infinitely higher intellect than Jezza), being ousted and replaced.
He has no problem with untrammelled immigration, to adopt this stance, after what has transpired is, quite simply,
ludicrous; so although Copeland may be unrepresentative in some way, Jezza himself is the big,big problem.
Totally agree the tories aren't beating (fuck it, trouncing) labour we (labour) are trouncing ourselves. Even sensible conservative supporters seem to pity us and bemoan the lack and necessity of a functional opposition.

We are a rudderless vessel being swept along by a current of unpopular policies increasingly towards a niagran oblivion but the luvvies who have hijacked labour seem either blind to it or as others have said happy with their position (that position being one of a movement of protest)

But they have not moved to the practical left, they have moved to the Utopian left where having non gender toilets is more important than jobs and local communities.

They believed in a dream at A level and uni and have been able to get paid for dreaming up and pursuing that dream by being a full time politician who surround themselves with similar luvvies who live in a bubble and egg each other on to hate the Tories and anyone who gets off their arse has ambition and wants to do well for themselves. Of course Corbyn appeals to momentum they are the same as him and his lot.

All that they stand for is meaningless outside trendy hotspots of London and Brighton.

Even now after this defeat and falling miles behind the Tories, it's still not enough for him to do the honourable thing.

I couldn't agree more.

I find the state of politics in this country hugely depressing at the present time and the primary source for this is the first past the post system. I've been opposed to it for all my adult life, even when I was happy with and voting for Labour in the noughties and they were securing large majorities, but my opinion has now developed to the point where I view it as the biggest hinderence to effective and representative democracy in this country. How can it be right, notwithstanding their recent decline, that UKIP have a single MP? That is an utterly reprehensible statistic in relation to a party that secured 13% of the votes. Millions of people, who would otherwise do so, fail to bother voting because they live in 'safe' constituencies and they know that voting is an utter waste of time and effort.

Nothing will get done about it, of course. Turkeys don't vote for Christmas.
Spot on, I was going to post the exact same thing.

The most depressing thing is that there is no chance this will change any time soon. I did hope that following that Brexit referendum there would be some momentum in the country to apply pressure to change the system but normal service has resumed.

We had the chance to change it in 2011 referendum and didn't take it, I can't see another chance for quite a while.

the fact that momentum is in the country is the very problem ;-)
