Ah the days of making nitrogen triiodide. All you needed was a bit of the ammonia based window cleaner and the iodine to make things go with a bang. Mix the two together and then evaporate it slowly, and the purple powder thats formed is very unstable.

Had a little toy stable given to my grandfather by a work mate, whose own children had no interest.
I played with it for years. Got toy trees and fencing, and lots of horse and animal figures. Debenhams (I think it was them but might have been Pauldens) in Manchester had a whole floor of similar toys at that time. I thought I'd gone to heaven when I went there a couple of years later ;-)
The "playing" was all in the imagination

Not so much toys but Jacks and pitch-and-toss. Games played as far back as the Ancients, with variants found across cultures, yet I wonder if they will now die in the West.

When the transformer packed in on my Scalextric, being a dab hand with a soldering iron, I decided to bypass the transformer and pass the mains feed through direct. More power = faster, right?

I used to angle the bowlers triangle to do spin bowling....little red balls all over the lounge at times.
