Am I doing something wrong here?

From experience you have generally been able to book train tickets around 3 months in advance, this usually gives you the cheapest price.

I have looked for train tickets for the QPR game and I am looking at having to pay £70 for a return!!! To get to london it has always cost around £25 when booked 3 months in advance.

Have the train fares really gone up that much or am I doing something wrong?

Cheers Blues

My god!! I hate using coaches for London games aswel but I am not paying £70

Yes mate.

A Standard return is normally £70. However the advance single fare will be £11.50 each way.

These fares are normally released exactly 12 weeks in advance and you have to be quick to get them.

For the QPR match they should be on sale this Saturday or maybe Monday.

Which site are you trying on. I've tried on Nationalrail site for QPR but it will only let you book up to 1st Nov at the moment.

Still shocked by the prices though. Last ordinary away game in London for me was Chelsea and for that I paid about £30 return which included both mine and my lads. Already had to settle for driving to Spurs but hoping to do QPR on the train.

whilst we are on the subject of trains, ime thinking of catching 1 to bolton. What is horwich station like after the match to get away?

Nice one blues, I will try again over the weekend or Monday. £11.50 each way sounds about right.

Hopefully the fixture won't be changed due to CL!!!!

-- Wed Aug 10, 2011 1:26 pm --

If you are travelling back towards Manchester you queue on the right hand side of the approach road and the Police get you away as soon as they can, if you are travelling towards Preston you walk past the crowd and over the rail bridge and queue on platform. I think they try to get extra trains on to take fans back to Manchester.
