Good to see the likes of Colin Rosler and Phil Foden from the under 18s involved. Certainly feels like there's greater integration between the academy and senior side under Guardiola, which hopefully bodes well for the future.

I guess those that played last night have the day off (or just light duties), so they needed youngsters to make up the numbers for the rest, but good to see.

@Ric Just as an aside or as an example of how our club does still feel like a 'family' club no matter what a lot of people say about us becoming more corporate etc.; Last night the ball boy in front of us was really into the game but trying desperately to be neutral and Vinnie who was warming up on our side came over to him and said a couple of words, obviously I couldn't hear what was said but that lad had the biggest smile on his face for the rest of the match. He will probably be in school today boasting about how our club Captain spoke to him. :-)

@Ric To be fair to Pellegrini, it was commonplace for Manu and Aleix Garcia, Tosin, Kean Bryan, Brandon Barker, Angelino, Maffeo and Celina to be involved in first team training last season.

The problem was that he never gave them the step up to the first team, but Pep's already shown he will.

Pep does seem to be taking them younger though, from the u18's as well as EDS and there's a more varied selection. It feels like he's looking for something.

Yeah, fair point. Until a youngster really establishes themselves in the fist team then I guess it counts for relatively little. Hopefully this will happen sooner rather than later under Guardiola.

It's true that all managers will have involved "kids" in training sessions when they heed the numbers after a game but it might also happen at other times. I expect or at least I hope the big difference will be how the manager treats them when they are there.

From what I have seen in the past they may just be a body helping in a position rather than training with the team and the manager actually having a good look at them to see not just how they play but how they handle what is a big thing for them. We have seen pictures with the likes of Sancho and Pep has an arm round his neck.I feel certain that he makes it special for them and will take serious note of how they perfom.

Great to see Pep at the under 19's game yesterday. It would not surprise me at all if he had words with some of them about that game v Barca and things they should learn from it. I certainly hope so too as I doubt anything from Simon Davies would be of any value!

I think the more important thing is that Pep goes to their own training to watch, which Davies said he did last week, to see them in their own environment will imho give Pep a better idea as to when they should be involved for real.

I'm sure we will have more involved this season as it wears on, giving Maffeo and Garcia game time in a Manchester derby shows the trust is there.

Wasn't that how he himself was found by Cruyff? It must have left a lasting impression on him. And he's been doing similar ever since.

IIRC Cruyff went to see an u18's game where Pep was playing right back and sent a note to the u18 coach to move him to midfield. Pep impressed Cruyff so much he promoted him almost immediately.
