travel through Mexico

We are a young NZ couple wanting to travel through Mexico.Is there a website that we can join to meet others? We want to start in LA and drive down to Mexico stopping at Vegas on the way. Is there a travel website or something similar where you can meet others who are planning on doing something similar so that you could perhaps convoy together? I hear its way safer to travel Mexico in a group so would love to meet others who are wanting to do this as well. Thanks

I lived in Mexico for 12 years and the highway from Tijuana down to Monterrey/Saltillo is alright if you travel during the day dont need a convoy. The infrastructure in South East Mexico is pretty crappy so maybe in that area you had better watch youself as the Zapatistas are still evident as well as the EPR. The traffic in Mexico City is a nightmare!
