There cant be many City Fans who watched the Blues away in that time .who did not witness some trouble , get involved in it or just plain sh*t emselves .No way could wear your colours & mix with the home fans outside the grounds or in the pubs . Most Coaches were used as target practise by brick throwing home fans . Usually little or no segregation .Un helfull police .poor facilites at the grounds .IF YOU WENT ON THE "Foot Ball Speciall " what a horrible experince that was .& when you arived at the train station you were met by police with giant dogs & "escorted to the ground"This was part &parcell of going away in them days . How different it is today .Even at Liverpool FFS it is pretty friendly now a days

OH how i miss some of those days

Yeah i bet you do . Nothing like travelling up the Motorway with some windows smashed in

yes i remember it well it was an achievement to get home form some places , there was no hiding place in the ground you got sussed and surrounded and outside you just kept your head down and tried to avoid the locals , particularly bad on merseyside, anywhere in the north east and london, some of the so called new premier league fans who have just discovered football at the age of 35 would have fucking shit themselves.

Arsenal was usually not to bad but once i got a fag stubbed out on my face .Port Vale away in pre Season 1971 /Running Battles all day with Stoke City fans

my first game 1978/9 2000 city fans surrounded by police at leicester colin bell come back,1985 away notts county 3 nil down half time we went mad billy mac telling us to calm down, who cares 1 game later 5-1 v charlton happy days

The old football special trains were brilliant, i travelled all over for nowt as they wouldn't come round to check the tickets.

So you were the one who knicked all the light bulbs out of the carriages, fuckin scary coming home from winter away games on train with no lights and smashed windows.

Oh happy days

I know i sound like a moron and probably was but really enjoyed those away days got paid on Friday if City were away i was skint by Saturday night
We never wore colors [the element of surprise] we wore M C F C buttons on our Harrington's oxford bags doc martins
Used to go with the lads from the moss usually a gang 12-30 always got the first coach get in early and wait for the specials and sus out the opposition
Taken some kickings gave some out got stabbed at hammers but the buzz was awesome

But still prefer today so i can watch the game in piece
