Travelling abroad watching City in Europe ?

Explaing your rights to a baton wielding cop can end less positively than first hoped.

Best advice for anybody going is to not act like twats. They are waiting for any sign of aggression. Fool them by being cool, happy to be there and friendly to the locals.

Works for us.

you don't have to act like a twat. One time the Madrid police waded in to some blues, right outside the ground. there was nothing going on they just wanted to hurt us. in Barca a few got wallets stolen, one lad grabbed a thief and threw him against a wall. police were called, me, jess, him and a couple of others were put against a wall and threatened with detention. the thief was allowed to go free.

I wasn't. I was telling it as I have experienced it. In Bordeaux after the World Cup the cops were itching to get stuck in.

It nearly kicked off and played into their hands. Just calming jets disarms them. Although in Celta Vigo the cops set about us and we reciprocated.

I wasn't making light of it I was acknowledging the dangers and offering advice how to defuse potential problems.

I think you would gave a harder time being English and their tendency to tar all English fans as there for trouble. That makes it even more necessary but to give those cubes the excuse they want.

Some very interesting stuff in there, great work. Well done Bayern for the club and fans getting together to take madrid hooligan police to court.

It needs addressing and club backing.

You've obviously not read the FB post in the OP then, because this is about fans of clubs across Europe getting beaten indiscriminately by the police and the Madrid police are clearly the worst of the fucking lot. Hence why Bayern Munich fans are taking them to court and are being backed by their club. I'll also add that they're utter ****s to their own people as well so this is anything but an issue confined to mainly to English clubs.

Concur with @Magicpole, if you behave there's little concern about police or authorities. Of course, some locales have a reputation and for those you have to ask yourself if it's worth it to attend

Camp Nou is a safe place to watch a match and even take your children, I've never worried about the police or safety - even with my 5 year old. Pickpockets? That's not exclusive to any locale

I've never had any issues on the 6/7 City awaydays in Europe but it's certainly not all cakes and nicey nicey with the local Police at some places.

I think you not being an English football fan may cloud your judgement as to how 'friendly' it is mate.

I didn't have a problem with the police when we played you over in Barca mate but the Madrid police were a disgrace. There's obviously a different approach to policing in both cities. The Madrid police have a reputation going back many years and even treat the local people like shit.

The police and city authorities in Barcelona see pickpockets, whores and beggars as part and parcel of the tourist industry.

I did say I know you lot get a harder time. I'm not saying actually feel friendly to them but smile and do your best to not give them an excuse.

However, if they are total ****s and attack get stuck in. In the airport at Celta Vigo they were appalling and we rightly defended ourselves. Don't punch them. Hats and stuff, pretend you're playing against the rags and bring your foot down on the back of their unprotected legs. Works a fucking treat. I can still hear the squeals of one enthusiastic baton weirder.

A supporter in a wheelchair got whacked So I know how much a bunch of scum they can be.

My first run in with foreign police was at Juventus. Lost 2-0 but still in good spirits we boarded the coach to the airport. Some of the lads put those white chair back covers on their heads and were singing..We are the white caps. (funny when your're merry ). The coach arrived at the airport and we were manhandled off it and made to stand facing a wall while a row of police stood with machine guns pointing at us. After a few punches and threats we were finally allowed to board. Scary.

I was at the City match in CL, it couldn't have been more peaceful. Not being an English football fan also may mean I don't go looking for problems when I am at a venue either. While most City fans I came across were fine, I saw several who seemed to relish baiting Barcelona fans or making a ruckus

Concur. They also treat Barcelona fans quite poorly as well, even when they aren't playing at the Bobby Brown against RM

"I wasn't". LOl. I think you need to read Bills post again. I think he was quoting you not calling you a twat.

I'm not saying you're not a twat, just want to keep things friendly ;)
