If you have to ask why the Lawrence case is still in the news 20 years on, you seriously need to ask yourself why as I have answered your question as simply as I can.

Question; why are YOU using race as an argument??

Just taking the race issue aside, are you advocating that it is alright to kill a person that is unarmed, with a firearm, cos you are losing a fight you really started??

Pathetic and side stepping is your whole 'reasoning'.

1. There is nothing inherently wrong about killing an unarmed person with a firearm. This is obvious. To illustrate, just imagine that you're in the process of being pushed off a cliff by an unarmed person.
So saying things along the lines of 'A was armed and B was unarmed!' is, on its face, not an argument for anything

2. If I just walked up to you and twatted you in the face and you reacted by escalating the confrontation to the point I had a reasonable fear of impending death or serious bodily harm, let's say you whipped out a chainsaw and swung it towards my neck, I don't think any sane person would say that I'd not be justified in shooting you.

3. In this particular case, there is no evidence to suggest Zimmerman started the fight - not that it even matters all that much since what really matters is what was occurring just before the shot.


On a side note, still seeing people talk about Stand Your Ground. This case was not SYG. This case surrounded classical self defense, given that Trayvon was straddled on top of Zimmerman - giving him no possible way of retreating.

Not sure why you would find it suitable, or clever to dissect my complete point that was framed IN CONTEXT into bite sized chunks.

You just look like a cock for doing so and therefore, taking away any relevance of whatever lost point you were trying to make!!

Secondly, 'starting a fight' can be classed under 'provocation'. You seem to think it was a physical action. IF you were being followed by a guard, in a shop, from aisle to aisle, even thought YOU knew you had done nothing wrong, lost the guard and surprised him as you walked around a corner, wouldn't YOU be tempted to ask why was he following you??

Bearing in mind, this would be a guard doing his paid JOB, any normal person would still be annoyed by such action.

Lastly, 'stand your ground' was the initial reason given for a defence to the shooting which Zimmerman was under the umbrella of. IF that was not the case, then that should have been clarified, as such, by the arresting officers or the defence attorney from day one.

I have merely made 2 points, 1 regarding the framing of armed vs unarmed (the latter of which is only arrived at through hindsight, of course, but that's besides the point) and what relevance it has here, and, more importantly, 2, showcasing that it's not a case of just losing a fight and then being able to kill someone, it's a case of someone escalating the confrontation unreasonably (and, in this case, for use of deadly force, that'd be to a reasonable fear or impending death or serious bodily harm)

Blame the media and the other people who connected SYG to this incident (protesters etc.) In a sense, for a while at least, the misunderstanding, or at least some of it, may have been understandable based on their impatience with regards to evidence. The truth is, even before SYG was implemented you had no duty to retreat in the event that you could not retreat (eg, when you're being straddled)
The defense made it clear before the trial they were not seeking SYG, and that's why they didn't call a SYG hearing.
