Does anybody know if it is possible to kill a tree without getting it cut down by chainsaw is there any chemical I can put round the base of tree to kill it off

Unless it's the type of tree that will just stay standing for ever after it's dead and not the type that will eventually fall and cause damage/ injury, I would probably cut it down.About 14 ft not sure what kind of tree it is sorry

I haven't read anything anywhere that this is true in England. I have read previously that some councils put tree preservation orders on certain species though and that might specify a height.You are aware that trees over a certain height are protected?
Edit: My mistake, 5 cubic metres volume, apparently.
Edit2: It's too early. I think I was right the first time, if it's in your own garden without a TPO you can fell it but if it's over 5 cu metres you need a licence, possibly.
