Tribute to the Kippax

Love hate relationship with Maine Road. Loved it at the time, miss the atmosphere, the humour, even the food, but so glad we left for what we have now.

Nice article. Thankyou

I watch quite a few old clips at Maine road on YouTube. And watching on TV the Kippax doesn't look as big as it was, probably due to the low roof that belies the sheer size of being in there. Someone correct if I'm wrong but I think it held 25500 before being demolished. It was like being inside a Tardis.

The Kippax always reminds me of Deb

Only City could have a girl who was as hard as nails and never ran telling lads not to run either

The giant flag bought from proceeds of the Blue Print fanzine

Stunk under that.

What a place that was to be!

Great article. We used to get there about an hour before kick off and stand close to the away fans in the mad bit, under the light that used to flicker, go out, flicker again, go on for a bit, flicker and die - all to great cheers!

Silk scarves I still have, worn with punk rock skinny jeans, docs and a donkey jacket stolen from my brother - oh the style!

Silk scarves on each wrist Bay City Rollers style?

I got my first season ticket in 81/82 in the bottom corner of the platt lane, junior blues section

They used to let you climb over the wall into the kippax. After a couple of seasons I moved to the kippax permanently and stayed there until Maine Road closed, apart from 1 season (or was it two?) when we relocated to the north stand whilst the new kippax was built

Plenty of memories but the truly great matches were few and far between

The best has to be the 5-1 against the rags

If i recall correctly the rebuild was around the time we were in the lower leagues and must have had a big hit on the numbers. I remember sitting in the 'new kippax' when it was half built! How did that work?

That flag was a death trap. If you were under it when it came down you were fked! Very dangerous - but we all laughed.
