Trump in Stormy Indictment Popcorn Fest.

"Take to the streets!"

"Yeah! We got our guns. We gonna save you Mr President."

"But the feds know who we are? They put spyware in our phone. I don't wanna go jail"

"Send Tammy to wave a biden sucks flag. That'll show the establishment we mean business!"

"Hell yeah!"

I keep wondering about this also, I don’t know exactly when or how it happened but am constantly aware that something negative has happened to democracy. My best guess is social media being weaponized by these warped ideologies but I’m sure there were other triggers.
In America it has everything to do with Barack Obama being elected POTUS and him having the nerve to do so while not being white. Their number one goal is to "own the libs" and that means supporting the absolute worst people. I fully expect to have kkk members in congress in the next ten years.

Haven't we already got them? The NRA is the KKK reconstituted.

I just cannot grasp what people see in the likes of Trump and Johnson. It baffles me.

This is not a 'party political' point. There have been loads of Republican Presidents and Tory PMs in the past. I may not have agreed with them on most points. In some cases I detested them. But they were rational creatures, not obvious liars and charlatans. Most could, at the least, be respected. Some, like Thatcher, were undeniably intelligent, even if you did not agree with them.

I stress 'obvious' liars and charlatans. Yet literally millions of people worship, or have worshipped, these utter clowns.

There is something deeply wrong with society and 'democracy' when shit like this rises to the top.

I agree a lot with this sentiment.

Having spoken to the Boris supporters in my own family (who since have seen the error of their ways) it seems that Boris, Trump along with other ‘strongmen’ like Orban and Duterte are in essence a widespread counter-culture movement in reaction to the corporate feel of modern politics.

As we moved through the 90s and into the 00s at some point people stopped seeing more polished politicians as simply media-trained humans like the rest of us and started seeing them as a superficial veneer for corporate interests. The tragedy is that the characteristics of being well-spoken, erudite and considered became catastrophically entangled with the concept of insincerity in politics. Mainly because people saw a lot of well educated, well spoken politicians doing shady and damaging things for their constituents. The political class had always been over-represented by intelligent and educated people (for all the right reasons) but this suddenly became a millstone rather than a boon.

Trump and Boris are the ultimate showcase of correlation not equalling causation. People perceived that by doing away with the “sheen” of people who sound like they know what they’re talking about, they also dispose of the corporate interest that lies behind it. The tragedy is that these types of politicians are often more in the pockets of corporate interests than any that came before.

Then there is the problem of "insider-trading" by Congress and using taxpayer money to pay for NDAs to cover up all their sexual harassment problems.

It's bipartisan.

I have seen some of this stuff before and don't get me wrong, I'm totally on board with the problems of wealth and lobbying in politics. The US looks undoubtedly the worst for it but arguably the UK isn't much better, just perhaps more subtle. And yes, it's not a problem that's unique to one party (though I'm always wary of falling into the 'all politicians are the same' trap because that's certainly not true either).

My point was that people looking for a solution to corruption and lobbying in the likes of these more bombastic politicians are going to be disappointed. I don't know what the solution is but picking people who, frankly, aren't very bright for the highest offices in the land is not it.
