when are they going to stop this pointless, dangerous road race?

i can't find a link, it's just been on granada reports.

edit: a guy from new zealand.

I guess the deaths adds to the allure of it? Don't see it myself but they aren't forced to race and I guess it brings in a lot of money for the local economy.

they cancelled the monster supersport rnd 2 race today eventually......i say eventually because the race marshall wanted it to go ahead even in the wet & fog. Around 1/2 the riders were prepared to withdraw from the race if it went ahead.

The problem is not the rain, its the fact that parts of the track are wet and other parts are dry, thus making it impossible to get a tyre that will give all round grip.

most of the riders they interviewed were spot on tbh....not so much concerned with their own safety, but much more concerned with any spectators or marshalls that get caught up in any crash

The Auto Cycle Union regret to announce that Paul Dobbs, 39, from Onewhero, New Zealand, was killed during the Supersport 2 race at the TT races in a racing incident at Ballagarey.

Paul was an experienced TT competitor with a best finish of sixth in the 400cc lightweight TT race in 2000. He first competed in the Isle of Man TT Races in 1999.

He was married with two children. The ACU wishes to pass on their deepest sympathy to the rider’s family and friends.

Jim Parker, Chairman, ACU, commented:

“Paul was a really popular rider in the paddock and was a great competitor. He was a very talented rider who made many friends in the racing community. He will be sorely missed.”

As a race it is no more pointless than any other race like the 100m at the Olympics, the Derby or the Tour de France.

Kicking a football around a field for 90 minutes isn't a strictly necessary activity either.

There's no harm in it, except of course to a few competitors who all know the risks beforehand, and that's their business.

I Have been into bikes since I was old enough to get on one & have riden on the roads for over 30 years, I love bikes almost as much as city but I have never been to the TT meeting,
Aphex, its called choice, You choose to do what you want, I choose to do what I want, if it dont effect me & its legal I couldnt give a toss what you do, What gives you the right to start interfering in what I or anyone else wants to do if it dont effect you?

there is a death every time, seemingly.

from wiki:

'The future of the TT is always in doubt with regards to the safety, especially "Mad Sunday" when any member of the public can ride the mountain section of the course which is open one way from Ramsey to Douglas. The TT races are extremely dangerous because of the high speeds on very narrow, twisting streets, roads and lanes flanked by stone walls and even buildings. Between 1907 and 2009 (at the end of 2009 TT races period) there have been 227 deaths during official practices or races on the Snaefell Mountain Course (this number includes the riders killed during Manx Grand Prix and the Clubman TT races).'

sounds dangerous to me.

-- Thu Jun 10, 2010 6:48 pm --

why am i interfering?

i am stating my opinion. i'm not saying ban every roadrace, but the facts speak for themselves.

read my post above.

i have done mad sunday over there and it is probably the best adrenaline rush ive ever had, people no what they are facing when they take on the course.

R I P Paul Dobbs

Every time i mention i have a bike, the first thing people do is tell me about a friend, relative, collegue etc etc who has been killed maimed or otherwise incapacitated on a motor bike!!

I KNOW its dangerous, i KNOW i can be badly hurt or worse thru my own error or absolutely no fault of my own, and i know it has a bad rep, but...

I love it! I always have, i love the buzz and i love the freedom, and i NEVER leave my bike after a ride feeling pissed off!!

I have nothing but repsect for the lads (and lasses) who ride the TT, or any other road race for that matter, it takes tremendous guts and no small amount of skill to do what they do on two wheels.

I deeply regret any death of a motorcycle rider / racer in any circumstance, but i completely respect their right to ride.

RIP Paul.

With out risk's life would be pretty pointless.

Besides getting on one of them stupid contraptions is insane in the first place but I respect their right to drive them fast.

Now we need a one for cars \0/
