Turkey and Russia in Syria

It was stupid to give Turkey membership of NATO.

Now they have a nutter in Erdogan running the show anything could happen. He is loopy enough to go and hit Russian bases and target Russian aircraft and personel. They also have the kit do do it.

One easy way to stop turkey send over a shit load of blonde female tourists that will divert their attention for a while.

Turkey has the second largest armed forces in NATO. Russia couldn’t even take out Ukraine. You may need to adjust your preconceptions.

If Russia wanted to take out Ukraine they could do so with relative ease. Ukraines inventory of weaponry is made up entirely of obsolete Russian kit.

Now regarding Turkey thats a different matter all together and they have the kit and the training to give the Russians a run for their money on land at sea or in the air. Infact in the air I would give Turkey superiority other than in numbers of combat aircraft. Russia also have long range heavy bombers which Turkey do not. I wouldnt however give those Russian heavy bombers much chance of survival should they approach or enter Turkish airspace.

Not that easy NATO are obliged to assist Turkey as per the terms of membership.

Were Turkey to target the Russian military with airstrikes it would be highly likely the Russians would target the bases from which the Turks were launching the airstrikes. At that point NATO would be forced to act.

good luck to 'em, if Erdogan fancies handing himself in at the Hague and establishing a secular democracy then I'll think twice.

Do you think the US would have been able to persuade the Turks to let them use Incirlik without them being in NATO? Incirlik was probably the most important US base during the Cold War and is still nearly as important due to its proximity to many places where the US used to be the main player up until Trump.

There you have it. Thats pretty much why they were let into NATO, oh and in the hope that it would stop the Turks and Greeks bitching at each other constantly.

It is now in danger of coming back and biting NATO in the arse and dropping them right in it.
