Turkey and Russia in Syria

Starting to resemble a quagmire for Turkey and Russia. 29 Turkish soldiers killed by Russian forces and not Syrian regime forces as first reported. Increasing worry also feeding back into Turkish domestic politics.

God knows where this will end up.
Russia's Vietnam.

If Russia wanted to take out Ukraine they could do so with relative ease. Ukraines inventory of weaponry is made up entirely of obsolete Russian kit.

Now regarding Turkey thats a different matter all together and they have the kit and the training to give the Russians a run for their money on land at sea or in the air. Infact in the air I would give Turkey superiority other than in numbers of combat aircraft. Russia also have long range heavy bombers which Turkey do not. I wouldnt however give those Russian heavy bombers much chance of survival should they approach or enter Turkish airspace.

Ukraine has rapidly developed its armed forces in face of Russian aggression and this includes equipment. I agree on Turkey. It’s military capability is greater than people generally realise.

Ukraine has had some upgrades to some of its ground forces but its air force is obsolete. Its front line combat aircraft consist of a few Squadrons of early Mig29s and SU27s with ageing SU24s for bombing and SU25s for ground attack and tank plinking. Russia on the other hand has a significant number of the latest development of all those aircraft plus numerous long range medium and heavy bombers that could hit anywhere in the Ukraine and have an expectation of making it home for vodka and medals.

One thing for sure is that the Ukraines are a game lot and would make life very difficult for Russian ground forces if they thought about trying to bring them back into mother Russia...As it happens I dont think there is much danger or will on either side for that conflict to escalate. Even if it does there is no obligation for Nato to wade in. Erdogan on the other hand should the mood take him would clearly have no problem at all in trying to embroil NATO into a conflict with Russia.

Ironically should this scenario come to pass then the much maligned Mr Trump is likely to tell Erdogan where to get off, and indeed Nato. At which point any military action by NATO without the Yanks would be by and large impossible.

looks like turkey had hit pretty hard all over the Syria, all the way down to Latakia which is Russian main point there.

Kinda serves Erdogan right for being an idiot and siding with Russia last few years.
