TV Series

I've written comedy for live shows, TV and radio shows. And I've been studying drama for TV and film so when I watch stuff I reverse engineer it. Meaning I rarely let go and enjoy something unfortunately. Loved Dexter, Breaking Bad. Thought Sopranos was severely over rated. Watched 1st episode of Billions and guessed a game of cat and mouse culminating in a court case at the end. Better Call Saul is next

Apart from Dexter, which ive never seen, I didn't 'like' the first episode of any of those series! and they all turnued out great overall.

There are plenty of series whoose first episode totally gripped me/made me laugh, that i chucked at various points when they turned to utter mince.

Is there a technical term for either in tv drama studies?

The technical terms are as follows:

Programmes that start slowly but turn out to be great are known as Goaters, programmes with a strong start but fade quickly are called Mcmanamans.

without wanting to sound patronising, you can say that about the first 10 minutes of any good film.

I felt the same back when i warched it, took me a good few episodes. worth it.

I don't think I know anyone, on first time of watching who didn't say the exact same thing.

Takes a few episodes at least to get the feel of it OldhamBlue, the show, the characters, all slowly grow on you (Omar I guess you just can't help loving him straight away), not sure why that is, maybe subconsciously we don't want to recognise and glorify the drug dealing and violence, fuck knows, but they do, I enjoyed it even more the second time around if I'm honest.

I am just curious why didn't you like the first episode of Breaking Bad ?

For me it's in there amongst the best 10 episodes of the whole series. So much happens...

Wanted to watch it, but the first two episodes disappeared so bloody quickly, or i just cant find them, the rest of it seem as, all there

It was a while back now, but i remember thinking it felt forced, the violence, the characters, and at times the 'chemistr to solve problems' angle felt cheesy. So i guess maybe it had Too much happening.

That was just my first impression at the time as i remember it. Might be different now.

Which was my point, about judging shows on one episode of 60+.

Finish gangs of london tonight. Superb show. Episode 5 was just insane. Makes me laugh though, one of the main gripes people have with it is that the fight scenes are too choreographed, when they are EXACTLY the same as the raid, which people loved.

The kick offs in that would make the 60s Batman and Robin kick offs blush.

While watching wonder if anyone else had the thought that something similar tv why’s of Kompany time at City because his mindset was so like Jordan with his self belief hard work and being part of us winning again!
You weirdo. I thought exactly the same thing this morning and I wasn’t even watching it. Just saw a picture of Jordan.

Finally got round to watching the 3 seasons of Fargo. As a Coen brothers fan was looking forward to them and season 1 was good, 2 okay if slightly daft but 3 was pretty crap apart from some good acting from the cast.

Did anyone else watch The Deuce? Another Simon and Pellecanos show, well worth watching. Probably depends how much James Franco you can stomach though.

Seen two seasons so far. Both were very good indeed.

Another David Simon project that is excellent is Show Me A Hero. Better to view it without knowing anything in advance about the real life events it is based on.

Agree on 1 and 3. 2 however i thought was the best of the lot. Totally daft, as you say, but i accepted it for wat it was, OTT tv, and somehow the period and style suited the extremity of the characters better than the other two current times seasons, imho.
