Txiki Begiristain to leave role at end of season

Surely there was an expectation that Oscar Bobb and Savinho's addition would step up to fill the Alvarez gap, only for Bobb to break his leg a few days later.

Whether the last 2 weeks or so of the window were enough to find someone willing to not play much is a matter of opinion.

Losing the goals of Alvarez with no replacement was a huge mistake no matter how much cash we received. Simply not enough goals in the squad to challenge for trophies.

Worse is that Haaland is playing every minute - which is going to end in tears. When he pulls up injured cause of being overplayed we will be really in the shit.

Txiki’s been asleep at the wheel whilst on his 12 month lap of honour.

Lots of mitigating factors but there has been chronic mis-management which won’t be sorted in January.
It’s not quite as bad but if we’re not careful it’ll be like when Fergie left the scum. Ageing players not replaced or much inferior players coming in

Pep is also a huge part of that transfer committee, was he reluctant to get involved because he though he may not extend his deal?

Can you elaborate or put some context on "the fear of offending the PL" bit?
My own personal opinion, so means fuck all in the scheme of things, is that the powers that be at the club are a lot less confident of winning the charges case than their public bolshiness would have us think.
I think we were keeping money back in case we're found guilty but our form has fallen off a cliff and these funds are needed now.

A post showing how little you know of the background to last summer and how our club came to their transfer decisions ,of which Txiki was only one part. To be fair I don't full understand it either, but I know Txiki wasn't just left to his own devices, and then at the end of the summer the rest of the club were asking Txiki what happened.
The buck stops with the Director of Football. Txiki has explained the complications of managing post treble - but he’s made an absolute arse of it.

We were shown several times last year that the team can’t function without Rodri. Whether it was the money he wasted on Phillips and Nunes - but to go into the season with just Rodri and no proper back up was negligent.

We sold our backup striker at the end of the window meaning we went into the season with one striker that we know cannot play every game.

Those two decisions are mind boggling to me.

As you say, there could be loads of reasons we don’t know about - 115 related - Pep possibly leaving before signing his contract - loads of complications but the Summer activity ( and lack of activity ) has killed us and written a season off.

"Written a season off" you sound entitled.
15 games in and everything to play for, we probably won't win the league for the 5th time in a row, is that what your expecting.?

FA Cup and CL to come, along with reinforcements and some injured/ill players returng to full fitness and elite condition.

Much can happen, change and improve, starting with smashing the vile rags on Sunday.

Backbone not backdown !!

I’m not expecting it now but we were in a position where we should have been until transfer complacency struck. You strengthen while on top, not wait for others to catch up.

Of course injuries haven’t helped, but all clubs get them and we sold Alvarez late in the window with no replacement. Did the club really think Haaland could play 60+ games?

It’s not one issue but a perfect storm that has come to bite us on the arse; injuries, particularly Rodri and Bobb, then Foden often unavailable, plus no-one able to score except Haaland. Yet we knew Bernardo, Gundogan, Grealish, Savinho and Kovacic are hardly prolific even when fully fit.

It was clear we needed to add power and pace to midfield and a finisher to help Haaland get a rest or play together some games and contribute goals or take away other defenders from Erling.

Hopefully we can put some or all of these issues right in January. But we must spend on some proper players, no more average squad fillers.
