Anyone who pronounces it "scon" is obviously a wrong 'un. They're more than likely in the "muffin" and Quinn camps as well.

Years ago in barnsley, I went into a chippy and asked for a chip barm and the chippy fell silent
The "girl" serving said "we call them butties here" and a really rough looking lad behind me piped up "barm! You're posh. Where are you from, Oldham?"

I once stopped for directions to a club in Barnsley. I honestly thought the fella was talking Polish for the first 30 seconds until I began to decipher his mangling of the English language
