In and around Burnley they call barms 'tea cakes'. If you want what normal people would class as a tea cake you have to ask for a currant tea cake, otherwise you will get a friggin barm!

Used to deliver bread across much of South Lancs - every town had a different term for what I would call a barm. Remember being sent to get some packets of teacakes - so I collected a bread product with currents in - was sent back with a flea in my ear to get teacakes instead of fruit teacakes. Now I live in Coventry where they have batches and cant believe that no one else in the world calls a barm a batch.

No, I'm from Cheshire originally, though my girlfriend is American.
But I've always known meal times them as these.
