City u18s continued their 100% record in the Barclays Premier Academy League with a 3-0 win away to Wolves.
In a repeat scoreline of last year's fixture in the Midlands, goals from Bersant Celina, Aaron Nemane and Zackarias Four secured the victory for Jason Wilcox's side, who - despite the scoreline - were made to work for the three points.
City goalkeeper Charlie Albinson was called into action on a number of occasions to keep the hosts at bay, though once the visitors had clinched a two-goal lead, they rarely looked like relinquishing it.
The Manchester outfit headed into the clash seeking their fourth consecutive win. Wilcox made two changes to the side that duly despatched Everton last time out, with Cameron Humphreys and Tom Holland coming in to replace Charlie Oliver and Marcus Wood.
That meant the away backline consisted of Humphreys, Sam Tattum, Tosin Adarabioyo and Nathaniel Oseni, while Holland, Manu Garcia and Celina took their places in midfield alongside Nemane and Isaac Buckley. Callum Bullock operated in a more advanced role up front.
It took 27 minutes for that to happen, as Nemane was upended on the edge of the area, prompting the referee to award a free-kick. Up stepped set-piece specialist Celina, who fired the ball into the bottom corner to give the away side the lead.
Wolves responded well to falling behind and forced Albinson into a series of fine saves.
Three minutes before half-time, the shot-stopper made a terrific stop to preserve the visitors' lead into half-time.
After the break, City looked sharper and sought to double their advantage. The away side probably should have been awarded a penalty for handball but the referee claimed otherwise.
In a bid to find his side some breathing space, Wilcox brought on Faour and Wood to replace Garcia and Bullock.
On the counter attack, the winger ran half the length of the field, holding off a Wolves defender, before clipping an effort over the hosts' goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
The victory was sealed with seven minutes of normal time remaining as both substitutes combined to mark impressive cameo performances for the third goal.
Wood collected the ball from Celina before embarking on a strong run into the area. Unselfishly, the midfielder squared for Faour to tap in with ease, ensuring there was no way back for the hosts.
Although the display wasn't perhaps as convincing as some of their previous encounters this season, City deserved the win and head into next weekend's Manchester derby in superb form.
Another goal for Faour.....Also this kid Nemane seems like a good prospect
