The Useless Effin Fuckin' Arseholes have shoved an over-the-top ban at the behest of others in the hope that any appeal to CAS will still have some fall out in it for us. It may well be that they are simply looking to be pro-active in the sight of the European Royalty, who knows. It might all come out once the training kits are in the wash, but if there is even a shorted ban than the two years there is a sufficient cluster of shitehawks in the PL who would be clamouring for a points deduction for next season.
