UEFA Women's Euro - 2025

Would need France to beat Netherlands in that scenario and to score a bucket load against Wales to increase goal difference because we’d be level on points otherwise

That was my first thought. Looking at how France and Netherlands played today I think France will beat them comfortably.

And I think England will get into a rhythm and beat Wales comfortably.

But it's never that simple really...

Well it was the only thing that looked like working.

Carney got it right at the end, we got bullied all over the pitch, for 85 minutes they were very poor.

I think the other point that they didn't mention, is that they were way better technically all over the pitch also. Once we started winning battles (at the end) and going direct it helped because compared to them we had zero comfort on the ball and very few passing options through midfield.

That was a real mess and it also showed up all of the deficiencies that have been bubbling under the surface for a long time. From the side that won it in 2022, there's only really Russo who you could say is possibly a better player than they were 3 years ago.

I know a few of them have been injured but it's crazy to see that players like Stanway (26), Walsh (28) , Williamson (28), Mead (30) have fully regressed when they should have hit their peak years since 2022. What's happened to them?

It's also wild that even when we won the Euros that we didn't have a left back and nobody has remotely emerged since. Three years and nobody close to international class.

And then on the other flank you have Bronze who still being chosen because there's nobody else emerging on that side either.

Our players simply aren't good enough and it's a concern that, notably in defence, nobody else seems to be coming through either.

Im surprised that given our obvious lack of talent in the fullback positions that she hasnt tried playing 3 at the back.

The one positive I'll say is that games depend on moments, and had our disallowed goal been just a couple of inches the other way, it's a different game. Yes we would still not have been as good as them technically, but the best team doesn't always win. If we get to play them again later in the tournament we've still got a chance.

Interesting point about 3 at the back and wingbacks @Mon Autre - I think Hemp could do a very good job in the left wingback position against most teams.

Yeah Hemp gets stuck in and she's good at shuttling up and down that wing. Her with Alex on the left side of a back 3 would be decent I think.

I'd also bring Clinton in for Stanway as she's had a good season and has a decent engine on her.

The midfield definitely needs more help in there one way or another, but I don't know how Netherlands set up.

Well played ladies.

You wanted equality with the men's team and you've got it. On the pitch at least.

Egos briefing the manager has her favourites rather than coming together as a team.

I doubt Weigman will win 3 euros on the trot with this team of individuals.

I don't think this is an ego thing at all or a problem with attitude. They just arent good enough and/or barely played last season due to injury.
