UK far right trouble

You never had one fight or attempted mugging or car theft? Or house burglary? Or the odd riot?
No. It was a totally different era. And yes;I know. It's hard to believe. But I'm not wumming. The riots were in '81, when we were in Longsight. I guess we were lucky, given the reputation of those districts.

*edit* we moved over here in late' 82, so we missed the worst of the "Gunchester" nonsense.

There needs to be regulation on what is being posted. Lies and misinformation are rife and it's leading to real world consequences.

Free speech absolutists like Musk just mean that far right propoganda can flourish.

Which is what happened since the attacks the other day and what led to last nights disorder. Lies believed by the gullible.

However successive Governments seem to have their head in the sand over it.
be a good trick if you could manage that mate, haven’t got a scooby how you’d do that :-(

It's what sparked the riot last night.

A false Muslim name was given the night before as the attacker. Then another false story that a man was heading to the vigil with a machete.

Both started by and shared around by far right accounts.

This is inarguable over what started it.

I'm saying in general, I agree with your assessment of social media it's a toilet. Do you want it stopped for everyone or just the people you don't agree with?

Correct. 30 years ago, I was drinking in the Beehive before and after matches with no problem. One Saturday, me and a mate got chatting and drinking in there after the match and lost track of time. At about 7:30, we looked up and realised we were the last two match attendees in there. We were quickly advised by the bar staff to get out and one of them even drove us into town to get us gone quckly.
Used to go in the Beehive before most games, never after a match though.

The 70's was bad The 80's was bad the 90's was bad...we must have missed you ....ha

Gunchester was late 80's early 90's .....Benji Stanley etc plus loads of drive by shootings etc

Just Google crime 1980''s Moss Side, there's plenty of evidence, as I said it probably wasn't as "dangerous" for locals but I worked in that area (nearby) in Betting Shops a Manager and detested it due to the number of incidents so mine and yours empirical evidence is at either end of the scale.
I don't doubt your experiences, far from it. I can only speak from my own experiences. As I have said in an earlier post, we moved from Moss Side in the early-mid seventies, and consequently missed the period you mentioned.

I think the country is at boiling point. Britain as whole is at boiling point , I think that tragedy has just blown the lid off. My local town last night a restaurant was attacked and the p word and allah was sprayed on the wall.
Britain? Nothing going on up in North Scotland. Few sheep being de flowered aside

I think twitter was never perfect.

There was always tension over the want for giving people a voice but stopping hateful speech and inciting. Sometimes they got it wrong but I think they got the balance about right, eventually.

It's really tipped over the edge in the last 6 months though. People/bots on there aren't just posting racist things, they're actively trying to start trouble and most of it is lies and misinformation.

Twitter is toxic, a viper's nest.
