UK Rail network to be nationalised

Private companies profiteering running the trains on nationalised network which will pick up all their debts with little return for the rail users.

No doubt the report will also say railway workers needs their jobs, pay, pensions and conditions cut because they restrict "Customer services" whilst First Group/Abellio/Serco directors and share holders coin it in.

Some Tory MPs are paid "consultants" by these private operators.

It will be sold as a good thing.

Seemingly good news. I'm a fan of renationalising the railways, but also old enough to remember what an embarrassing pile of shite BR was. I suspect some combination of state ownership and corporate franchises is the way forward. While I'm not one of these types who will automatically say something is shit just because it's tories doing it, I do suspect that because it is tories doing it this will benefit a small portion of wealthy corporates with the state absorbing financial risk and customer being bled for profit. If anyone thinks the plan is to benefit the customer, or indeed employees I have some magic beans you may be interested in buying.

another Labour "unaffordable" policy adopted. Imagine when they study the details how angry the Tory Government will be with the shambles that was set up by a Tory Government and repeatedly sold to the public by successive Tory Governments as the best thing to have done as what a Tory Government had done was way way better than before..............Brexit anyone?

That headline is misleading. It says 'Great British Railways' will run the infrastructure, which is already state owned with Network Rail. The train operators will still be private companies.

I'm guessing it's just a re-branding to get the words 'Great' and 'British' into view with Union flags flying over every station, signal box, and level crossing.
