The finale of Group C
Monday 21st June 2021
Both matches kick off at 17:00 (BST)
As it stands:
- For the Netherlands: 3rd in D: Croatia, E: Spain, F: Portugal – Talk about a short straw for winning your group.
- The runners up play Italy.
- 3rd place (if they progress) plays France or Sweden as it stands (opponent dependent on which 3rd place teams go through, see permutations table below).
3rd place permutations:
UKRAINE v AUSTRIA
KO 17:00 (BST) at the National Arena Bucharest in Bucharest, Romania. Capacity 25%, approximately 13,000 fans.
Coverage begins at 16:15 (BST) on ITV 4. No information on the guide other than commentary from Joe Speight and Emma Hayes.
Referee: Cuneyt Cakir (TUR)
2 decent teams, should be a good game, both have been fairly entertaining so far in this tournament racking up 14 goals for and against in their 4 matches. Both can score, neither can defend, should be a good watch. Neither can top the group as the Netherlands have the H2H on both of them, so they are playing for 2nd for the chance to play…Italy. A draw should be good enough for both to go through, but Austria would probably be much happier than Ukraine as they would be playing the winner of Group E or F rather than Italy. That said they'll still try to win as playing for 3rd may be too risky. If either loses they probably go out as the negative goal difference and 3 points wasn’t enough at Euro 2016.
Goal scorers so far:
Andriy Yarmolenko (Ukraine & West Ham) – 2
Roman Yaremchuk (Ukraine & Gent) – 2
Stefan Lainer (Austria & Borussia Monchengladbach) – 1
Michael Gregoritsch (Austria & FC Augsburg) – 1
Marko Arnautovic (Austria & Shanghai Port) - 1
NORTH MACEDONIA v NETHERLANDS
KO 17:00 (BST) at the Johan Cruijff ArenA in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Capacity at 33%, approximately 16,000.
Coverage begins at 16:15 (BST) on ITV 1. Presented by Mark Pougatch, analysis from Patrick Vieira, Nigel De Jong and Eni Aluko, commentary from Clive Tyldesley and Ally McCoist.
Referee: Istvan Kovacs (ROU)
The first dead rubber of the tournament, guaranteed bottom versus guaranteed top. Not much more needs to be said other than this outcome was completely expected, it’s also why I hate the H2H rule.
Goal Scorers so far:
Denzel Dumfries (Netherlands & PSV) – 2
Georginho Wijnaldum (Netherlands & PSG) – 1
Wout Weghorst (Netherlands & Wolfsburg) – 1
Memphis Depay (Netherlands & Lyon) – 1
Goran Pandev (North Macedonia & Genoa) - 1
